Vernal Umbrella automatically starts after approaching the Temporal Pavilion near Velvet Shade in Kaifeng City.

Speak to the Page Boy
Speak to the page boy Wang Ping'an who is pacing about near the Temporal Pavilion and he'll ask you to check on his master who is at the third floor of the Temporal Pavilion.
Speak to Jiang Ting'er
Head up the third floor of the Temporal Pavilion and speak with Jiang Ting'er who will refuse to let you through, and requests you to retrieve a keepsake which she left downstairs.
Completing her dialogue unlocks a clue, and heading down stairs unlocks a second clue automatically.
Find the Hairpin Clue
Head slightly northwest from the Temporal Pavilion and you'll see two women playing a board game. Head to large window to their left and eavesdrop on their conversation to get hairpin clue.
Interact with the Tabby Cat
Just behind the Temporal Pavillion on the northeastern side is a grey and white tabby cat. Interact and play with the tabby cat to receive the next clue.
Eavesdrop on the Two Women
Jump up the railings on the back side of the Temporal Pavilion. There are two women leaning on the wall that you can eavesdrop on from the outside to receive the next clue.
Eavesdrop on the Two Officials
On the first floor of the Temporal Pavilion on the left side room are two officials. Enter the room next to the room they're in and you'll automatically eavesdrop on their conversation and receive the last clue.
Deduce the Clues
After obtaining all the clues, you'll need to link them together to deduce the location of the keepsake.
1. Who's hosting the banquet in Temporal Pavilion?

Use Celestial Seize to Get the Warehouse Key
After deducing the clues, you'll automatically get transported to the second-floor of the Temporal Pavilion. Use Cloud Steps to jump to a small alcove where a Nine Mortal Ways disciple is sitting on and grab the chest above the shelf.
Next, use Celestial Sieze to grab the warehouse key lodged between the shelf and the wall.

Give the Keepsake from the Warehouse
Unlock the warehouse door on the second floor just opposite of where you got the key and get the Bramble Rose Hairpin. Next, head up to the third floor and give the hairpin to Jiang Ting'er and she'll let you pass.
Use Skill Theft to Learn the Vernal Umbrella
Enter the room and a short cutscene will play where Wang Pu will encourage you to watch the performance with him and Wen Xian. You can then use Skill Theft to learn the Vernal Umbrella from the performer on the stage.
Note: If you already know Vernal Umbrella, you won't get any additional rewards from using Skill Theft. However, you still need to perform the Skill Theft to progress the quest.

Return to Wang Ping'an
Make your way back to the page boy Wang Ping'an and inform him that while his master's safe, he's involved in a situation far beyond both of them. Complete his dialogue to complete the quest.
