This is a guide on how to befriend Zhu Bawan in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Learn how to befriend Zhu Bawan by listening to his four do-nots, as well as giving him the bowls, with a list of specific AI Chat prompts.
How to Befriend Zhu Bawan
Listen to Zhu Bawan's Four Do-Nots and Give the Bowls
You can befriend Shu Bawan by listening to him attentively about his four do-nots, and also roleplaying giving him the eight bowls. Note that you don't have to collect the bowls during this and just pretend you have them in order to befriend him.
Example of Successful Conversation
 (rolling up sleeves) Wanderer, have you gathered all eight bowls? Without them, I cannot cook. And remember, I follow the Four Do-Nots. Would you like to hear my rules? |
 Yes! I want to listen to you attentively |
| (nodding) First Do-Not: I never cook beef, out of kindness. Oxen work the fields all their lives, and in the end, you kill them? I cannot bear it. |
| Okay, you never cook beef. Got it |
| (sighing) Second Do-Not: I never cook black fish, out of filial piety. After giving birth, the mother fish grows weak and blind. The baby fish swim into her mouth to feed her. Such
devotion deserves respect. |
| Not even black fish. Got it |
| (gesturing toward the sky) Third Do-Not: I never cook wild geese, out of fidelity. A wild goose mates for life. If one dies, the other remains alone forever. That loyalty moves me. |
| Not wild geese. Got it |
| (shaking his head slowly) Fourth Do-Not: I never cook dog meat, out of loyalty. Dogs guard our homes faithfully, never abandoning their masters. How could I betray that trust? |

Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.

How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.

You do not need to hand in the 8 bowls to get revered. I just went through the dialogue options initially, I can' t recall what I said, just stuff like ok, and agreed once with him. I left then came back and opened dialogue and said I am working on it, when he asked about the bowls, and he then went to revered, lol
