1. Pick Up the Vessel of Soul by the Yellow River
Go to the location of the quest marker to locate a bag, the Vessel of Soul, lying on the banks of the Yellow River east of Qinghe.
2. Investigate the Area
Following the objective, head northwest of Bamboo Abode to an abandoned area with a shed. Look around the place until you're prompted to investigate the mural.
3. Examine the Mural
Up some steps, examine the large mural. Afterwards, light the candle in front of it.
4. Light the Candle in the Shed
As it's starting to rain, go to the shed and light the candle on the wooden support. A veiled woman in yellow will suddenly appear with some companions.
5. Talk to the Veiled Woman
Talk to the Veiled Woman at the table. Affirm your interest in learning and playing mahjong with her to advance the objective. A cutscene will play where you endure several rounds of mahjong.
6. Meet the Veiled Woman on the Next Night
The Veiled Woman will invite you to meet her again on the next night. Set the time to the next day on the Xu hour to trigger nightfall. Then, light the candle under the shed again to summon her.
7. Examine the Mural Again
You'll be asked by the Veiled Woman to inspect the mural again. Aim at the center of the mural to examine it. After doing so, you'll speak with the Veiled Woman, who will transport you to a cabin after a cutscene.
8. Complete Jianghu Legacy: In the Quiet of Night
After getting sent to a mysterious cabin, you will be pulled into the In the Quiet of Night Jianghu Legacy. Examine the painting at the end of the room, then proceed to the exit of the cabin to board the boat bound for Hexi.
Progressing through the side story is mandatory to reach the next objective of By Lamplight.

9. Complete Jianghu Legacy: Desert Without Sails
After arriving in Hexi, the Desert Without Sails Jianghu Legacy will begin. Repair the three flickering orbs and strike the drum on top of the giant boat that is stranded in the middle of the desert. This will clear up the sandstorm, which will unlock the first Hexi sub-region, Jade Gate Pass.
Like In the Quiet of Night, you will need to accomplish Desert Without Sails to progress through the By Lamplight main quest.

10. Investigate the Fish Tank
After completing Desert Without Sails, you'll finally be allowed to roam around the Hexi region. Follow the objective marker to Karez in Lost Crossing. There, investigate the fish tank to obtain the Mysterious Scroll and end the quest.
The Mysterious Scroll serves as an important quest item that tracks the story of your journey in Hexi. Opening it is also how you start the next main quest, Burlap Sack.
Activate Moonleap Morph to Travel Faster
Immediately after the end of Desert Without Sails, if you look left you'll see a glowing aura with an orb at the center. Investigate the orb to activate the Moonleap Morph Mystic Skill, which allows you to traverse the terrain of Hexi much more efficiently.
To pick up speed with Moonleap Morph, hover along the glowing Milky Way paths. These paths are marked on the map with golden borders stretching across Jade Gate Pass.
