This is a guide on how to befriend Angler in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Listen to what the Angler has to say about his circumstances regarding fishing, with a list of specific AI Chat prompts.
How to Befriend Angler
Keep Talking and Listening to the Angler
The gist of the conversation with the Angler is that he will tell you the story of his fishing ventures. All you need to do is keep talking to him and act insterested in what he says. Finally, when he asks what brings you to the area, tell him that you came to learn from him which might trigger his AI to befriend you.
Example of Successful Conversation
(carefully attaching a tiny secret bait, eyes gleaming) Yesterday I scattered plenty of bait right here. Today ... the real fishing begins! If I fail, it won't be because of the fish, it'll be because they underestimated my patience. |
 Okay! I will observe your skills |

(gently casting the bait, muttering softly) I've been baiting this spot for three days now. It should be ready ... today I'll finally show my skills! After all, angling is extremely time -consuming. That's sort of the whole point. |

(staring at the water, speaking to myself) I've been scouting and guarding this spot for days ... (inner thought: truth is, I've caught nothing so far) See that branch over there? Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.

How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.
