This is a guide on how to befriend Qi Gai in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Learn how to befriend Qi Gai by giving him alms with the help of specific AI chat prompts.
How to Befriend Qi Gai
Offer Him What He Needs
As a beggar, Qi Gai will ask if you could offer him food based on what he wants in the menu. While you can acquire the food and then give it to him, it is possible to use a parenthesized action prompt to instantly befriend him without actually offering anything.
Example of Successful Conversation
(scratching back) Oh my, it's baking today—knees sore from kneeling, everything aches. I'll rest later... got anything for this beggar? |
(I gave him what he needs) |

(tapping his account book) So... what good stuff are you giving me? Let me see. |

(snorting) Didn't expect to meet someone even poorer than me. I'm in a good mood today—fine, I'll take you as my apprentice. You can beg alongside this beggar too! Qi Gai shifts into a different kneeling pose. (Affection +100, becomes Revered) |
Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.

How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.
