At the beginning of the game, you will be asked to choose your preferred settings. Here are our recommendations that will help you explore and fully immerse in the game:
| Setting | Recommended Choice |
|---|---|
| Guidance for exploration | Detailed |
| Control mode | ARPG |
| Difficulty | Recommended |
| Social Preference | Shared Journey |
For the exploration guidance, we recommend setting it to Detailed. This will improve your visual cues, which will help during quests and will even show nearby chests and other POIs in your area. For control mode, it is based on preference, but based on the game's combat, we recommend setting it to ARPG.
For difficulty, the best one to go for is Recommended mode, where you get to experience the challenges of the game. You can also choose Story if you simply want to enjoy the main story and exploration. Alternatively, you can choose Legends since this difficulty will not be accessible after this menu.
Lastly, regarding Social Preference, we recommend jumping into Shared Journey since the game boasts its many social features. This can be changed at any time, so you can go back to exploring alone later on.
After finishing the cinematic opening, you will be introduced to the basics of the game's combat. In summary, the game will be focused on parrying and dodging enemy attacks while you weave in skills whenever there are openings.
Take each encounter slowly, as even regular enemies can easily take you down, especially if they are in groups. Focus on reacting to enemy movesets and depleting their Qi to deal significant Execute damage rather than trying to force attacks on enemies.
How to Parry Attacks and Best Parrying Tips

Depending on your gender, the game will provide you with a wide range of preset appearances by selecting the Elegant or Realistic option. After this, players can proceed to meticulously outline their character's faces through the Customization screen.
Players can also explore the Smart Customization option by recording themselves for their character's voices or by generating their design according to an uplodaded image. They can choose a preferred outfit and background later on, as well as their solo and duo poses for optional display.
After creating your character, you will be asked to choose an Aspiration Talent: Drunken Precision or Rhetoric Edge. These will not significantly affect your main story progression, as both are just buffs for the Pitch Pot and the Gift of the Gab minigames, respectively.
We recommend getting Drunken Precision if you are a bit slow with your hands, as Pitch Pot requires good hand-eye coordination. Alternatively, get Rhetoric Edge to help with the Gift of the Gab, which has somewhat complex card game mechanics.
![]() ① Status Effects - Shows the buffs and debuffs inflicted on the player. ② Health - The health bar of the player. Once this is depleted, it will trigger a game over. ③ Qi Bar - This is your character's Stagger Bar. Once it is depleted, you will be in an Exhausted state where you cannot block attacks. ④ Health Potion - Heals your character when used. You can refill this by purchasing or crafting potions. You can reset the usage number by teleporting on a Boundary Stone. ⑤ Martial Arts Skills - A set of skills that is paired with the equipped weapon. ⑥ Mystic Arts Skills - Character skills that can inflict status effects, damage enemies, or solve puzzles. ⑦ Weapons - Displays the types of weapon and Martial Art you are using. ⑧ Key Bindings - A guide of which button to press while in combat. ⑨ Enemy Qi Bar - A gauge that can put the enemy at an Exhausted state once depleted. These icons pop up around the screen while engaging in combat. It mostly shows the status between you and your enemy, such as your health and status effects. It also shows your equipped gear, skills, mini map, and quest objectives.
Where Winds Meet will begin in the region of Qinghe, where you, the player, will embark on a journey to unravel the mysteries of your true identity, to follow the main story, keep following the gleaming yellow icon on the map, which indicates the Main Chapter objectives.
Keep progressing through the main story quests until you reach the latest that is available in the game. Since some main quests are limited by a certain cap, you will need to wait for the next update to be able to progress beyond this point.
Story Walkthrough and List of Chapters
Early in the game, you will want to unlock all the arts that you can find while progressing through the story. There are three different arts in the game: Martial Arts (the playstyle of your weapon), Mystic Skills (character skills), and Inner Ways (passive skills).
Your main focus should be the Martial Arts, so you can determine which weapon playstyle you would want to master and stick with. These will also determine which Internal Arts you will want to aim for, which are usually tied to the Martial Art you are using.
For Mystic Arts, we recommend getting the Touch of Death and Veil of Stillness, which are useful when stealing Martial Arts, as well as sneaking around Outposts in the region. Heavenly Snatch will also be great for snatching items from afar, which is needed when opening certain chests in the open world or completing some quests later on.
Another thing to consider are talents, which is divided into three branches: Basic, Arena, Boss. The most essential one is the Basic Talents, which unlocks some of the most essential skills or mechanics in the game. You can focus on unlocking the main branch of the basic talent tree, but since you can unlock all of them later on, you can choose whichever you want to get.
Arena Talents will boost your PVP prowess while Boss Talents will increase your potency in fighting specific farmable bosses.

• Secondary Weapon • Disc • Pendant ▶ List of All Weapons and Weapon Types |
| Defensive Gear | • Helm
• Armor • Bracer • Greaves ▶ List of All Armor Pieces |
| Bow | • Bow
• Ring ▶ List of All Accessories |
The gear in Where Winds Meet is divided into three sections: offensive gear, defensive gear, and the bow. Both offensive and defensive gear can be part of a Set, which will provide you with stat bonuses.
All gear of the same type provides the same main stat, with the exception of the bow, which is not integral to main combat. Later in the game, you will be introduced to Tuning, which grants each piece of gear random additional substats.
Early in your progression, we recommend just equipping the best gear you have based on its raw stats. You can save farming for specific Sets and optimizing for the proper substats until later, when you start focusing on a specific build.
Another thing that is part of your gear system is cosmetics! These items only offer aesthetic purposes and hold no special effects on the character's stats, but they allow you to stand out among the crowd. There are numerous cosmetics that can be unlocked, so try to aim for the one you think would suit you best.
Oddities will have different color in the map depending on what type they are
As you explore the world, you will encounter multiple icons scattered on the map. Here are the different activities and some of their icons:
To unlock the map for a particular region, find the campfire icon on your map. Visit that icon and speak with the Wayfarer to reveal the areas on the map. Enjoy the journey!

One of the best combat tips is to delay Executing enemies when their Qi bar depletes. This allows you to get in extra hits before the Exhaust window expires. However, do not forget to trigger the Execute before the window closes, as it deals significant damage.
Some attacks in the game have special properties, signified by a color change on the enemy's weapon. A yellow glow means the attack is unparriable or unblockable. A red glow means that you can deal significant damage if you parry it correctly.
The key is to not get distracted when the enemy's weapon changes color initially. Wait for the glint to be at its brightest before reacting to perfectly counter the move!

After taking your first Oddity from an early Exploration Quest, unlock your first talent by opening the Melodies of Peace through Qi Sheng. When prompted to choose between four martial arts, pick the Panacea Fan, as it would drastically improve your survival since healing is very scarce at the beginning of the game.
Alternatively, you can obtain the Thundercry Blade, a slow, hard-hitting tanking weapon. Or, you can also get the Vernal Umbrella early since the only other way to unlock it is by reaching Kaifeng, which may take a while.
All Oddities Locations and Map
Some enemies have Qi bars that won't deplete even if all your attacks connect. To deplete their Qi bars, use the Mystic Skill Meridian Touch.
While exploring, do not forget to use the Mighty Drop (Q on keyboard or L3 on the controller) whenever you are dropping from a height. Forgetting to do so can lead to a sprain or other injuries that can hinder your movement, eventually preventing you from running. Medical expenses early in the game can be costly, and severe illness will require you to call another player who can heal you.

Do not forget to upgrade your Martial Arts and Gear Slots as you continue to level up. This will ensure that your damage is always increasing as enemy health increases. Ignoring to upgrade your primary source of damage will make each encounter significantly harder.
How to Unlock All Martial Arts
Do not forget to upgrade your potion at the Evercare Clinic whenever you obtain enough Medical Tales. Upgrading your potion will increase its effects and the number you can use at a time. This will significantly increase your survivability, as bosses get tougher as you progress through the game.

During early game progression, prioritize raising your world level to access the level-locked features in the game. Higher levels will grant you better rewards whenever you accomplish side quests and any map related activities.
There are important exchange shops that offer limited items that refresh weekly. We recommend exploring these shops before the week ends, as some of them provide important items such as tickets used for Martial Arts and Career upgrades.
While exploring the overworld, gather as many items as you can see along the way, be it plants, animals, or ores. A short detour will save you a lot of time later on when you start crafting items and upgrading your gear.
Where Winds Meet Interactive Map
Try unlocking all Boundary Stones that you can find scattered on the overworld. These offer one of the best ways to get Exploration Points and also enable fast travel to different locations.

Wallstride - Shadowdash is one of the best mystic skills in the game for land traversal, as it allows you to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. However, you will need to gather plenty of oddities to unlock it.
How to Unlock Wallstride - Shadowdash

Some quests in the game will require waiting for a specific timeframe within the game itself. You can avoid waiting around by adjusting the in-game clock through the settings for a faster progression.
