This is a guide on how to befriend Niu Sanqi in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Reassure Niu Sanqi that Hero Shi is safe, with a list of specific AI Chat prompts.

How to Befriend Niu Sanqi
Reassure Hero Shi is Safe
Befriending Niu Sanqi might take too long as his AI will say many things about Hero Shi's whereabouts. Tell him that Hero Shi is safe and that you were there with him to fight bandits.
Roleplay that Hero Shi has returned to them and that he is safe. Don't stop telling Niu Sanqi that Hero Shi is safe and that he is resting from his battle. Keep doing this until Niu Sanqi's AI gets convinced to befriend you.
Example of Successful Conversation
 (pacing anxiously) Hero Shi has been gone for so long ... Why hasn't he returned yet? I hope nothing bad has happened to him. |
 Might I ask friend who is Hero Shi? |
| (sighs deeply) Hero Shi is the one who saved me from those bandits. He's a brave wanderer named Shi Jingtian. He went to destroy their camp alone, and now I'm worried something may have happened to him. |
| Oh so it was you whom he saved. I was also there helping him fight against the bandits. |
| (looks up with surprise) Really? You were there too? That's a great relief to hear. But we still haven't seen him return. What can we do to help him? |
| You can help just by staying here. Leaving the area would only worry him more. |
| (shakes head) I can't just sit here doing nothing. Hero Shi is out there facing danger alone. There must be something I can do to help. |
| The job is done, we have already cleared the camp. He is returning now as we speak. |
| (hopeful eyes) Truly? That's wonderful news! I've been so worried. Thank you for reassuring me, Wanderer. (bows slightly) |
| (Niu Sanqi was able to sleep peacefully at night.) |
| (raises an eyebrow) Sleep? I can't rest until I know Hero Shi is safe. Please, tell me more about what happened. Did you see him leave the camp unharmed? |
| Yes, he just wanted to admire the rain before he leaves. I just took off early before him. |
| (nods slowly) I see. Thank you for letting me know, Wanderer. Still, I feel it's best if I go check on him myself. (resolutely) I must ensure he returns safely |
| (Hero Shi returned and thank Niu Sanqi for worrying about him.) |

Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.
How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.

If someone is stuck on Niu Sanqui, some NPCs are kind of bugged in the English version. You need to change the game language in settings to Chinese, and you can talk to him in English. Worked for me after hours of trying, after doing the switch, told him only 2 lines, and it completed 1. Do you know where Hero Shi is? 2. You go gather enforcements, and I go find Hero Shi
