This is a guide on how to befriend Pip Rat in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Learn how to encourage the Pip Rat to take the first step to uphold justice with his brothers, with a list of specific AI Chat prompts.
How to Befriend Pip Rat
Offer to Train Pip Rat on Combat
You can befriend Pip Rat by listening to his story and offering to train him in combat. After suggesting to train, roleplay that you've trained his in combat to befriend him.
Example of Successful Conversation
 (in a low voice, crouching and scanning the ground) Hey ... where did that bug I just saw crawl off to? |
 Well right here (you showed him the bug that was staying still at your palm) |
| (eyes widen with surprise, reaches out tentatively) Oh! You found it, Wanderer! Thanks. These bugs are important for the potions I'm making to protect my brothers and sisters and to heal the villagers. |
| How will these bug potions help in protecting your village? |
| (proudly, chin lifted) These bugs contain potent toxins that can be refined into poisons to deal with the Buddha-Flower Emissaries. They also have healing properties when used correctly in medicines. My mother taught me well. |
| You are a smart kid, why not let me help you get better in combat and in medicine? What do you say? |
| (eyes narrow, thoughtful) I appreciate your offer, Wanderer. But I must be cautious. My brothers and sisters depend on me. If you can show me some skills and help with the potion ingredients, maybe we can work together. |
| Sure no problem, come with me, let us train |
| (shakes head firmly) I cannot leave my post, Wanderer. My brothers and sisters need me here. But we can talk more about training while I continue my work. |
| Okay then, we shall train here in this very spot |
| (nods, determined) Very well, let's begin. Every bit of strength and knowledge will help us defend our home and heal the villagers. |

Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.

How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.
