How to Unlock A Faltering Flame
Speak with the Monk in Lantern Hall

Approach Lantern Hall in Kaifeng City
|
A Faltering Flame automatically starts after approacing Lantern Hall in Kaifeng City. Speak with the Monk to start the Exploration Quest.
A Faltering Flame Walkthrough
- Speak to the Lamp-lighting Monk
- Speak to Benevolent Li
- Speak to Mingniang
- Speak to Deng Santong
- Speak with the Lamp-lighting Monk
Speak to the Lamp-lighting Monk
Speak to the Lamp-lighting Monk and he'll relighting the lamps. Ask the monk each of the three Buddha's Verses for clues on how to get his old friends to come to the temple and relight the lamps.
Speak to Benevolent Li
Speak to Benevolent Li who is located in the temple's gardens just south of where the Lamp-lighting Monk is located. Progress his dialogue and he'll eventually agree to go to the temple to relight the candles.
Note: You can choose any response to his questions and the only change is how he reacts to your character.
Solve the Candle Puzzle
Return to the temple and after a short cutscene, interact with the candles for a puzzle. You'll need to move the top left candle into the lower right position.
For this puzzle, simply move the lower candles to the left so you have space to move the top left candle down to the lower right position.
Speak to Mingniang
Advance the time to the next day then head to the large temple area and speak with Mingniang. Similar to Benevolent Li, you can respond to her questions in anyway and it will still progress the quest.
Complete her dialogue and return to the temple where the Lamp-lighting Monk is located for a short cutscene.
Solve the Candle Puzzle
Interact with the candles to solve another puzzle. You'll need to move the lowest candle up to the top left to create space for the double candleto move to the right, which will then allow you to move the top left candle to the lower right position.
Speak to Deng Santong
Advance the time to the next day then head to the temple just opposite of the Lamp-lighting Monk's temple and speak with Deng Santong.
Make your way back to the Lamp-lighting Monk and after a short cutscene, Deng Santong will attack you. Once defeated, another cutscene plays between the Monk and Deng Santong.
Solve the Candle Puzzle
Interact with the canldes for another puzzle. Move the candles so that the double candles form an upside down l-shape on the top right of the puzzle so you have space to move the top left candle to the bottom right position.
Speak with the Lamp-lighting Monk
After solving the puzzle, the Lamp-lighting Monk will have a conversation with Deng Santong which reveals the history between the two. You can choose any reply at the end and it will only change how Deng Santong understands the Monk. Complete the dialogue to finish the quest.
