Character Description
Jiang Wulang Jiang Wulang Also called Uncle Jiang, he was the protagonist's guardian until he disappeared three years before the start of the game. He is the character you play as in the game's prologue.
Han Xiangxun Han Xiangxun The proprietress of Blissful Retreat. Alongside Uncle Jiang, she raised the protagonist until her disappearance following the Aureate Pavilion's massacre of Blissful Retreat.
Wang Qing Wang Qing The identity of the headless general commemorated in the General's Shrine. He was the adoptive father of Jiang Wulang.
Chu Qingquan Chu Qingquan An ally of Jiang Wulang and Han Xiangxun whose letter can be found at the beginning of the game, where he mentions the assassin Tian Ying.
Yan Qiren Yan Qiren An old man you find frozen like a statue in Stonewash Strand. You meet him in the Jianghu Legacy - Meridian Touch, where you also acquire the Mystic Skill of the same name.
Last Emperor Last Emperor The mysterious figure seen in the prologue after you, as Jiang Wulang, defeat the Void King. He is presumably the antagonist of the entire game.
Qianye Qianye A witch affiliated with the Aureate Pavilion who is the antagonist of Chapter 1: Heaven Has No Pier. She assumes a disguise to infiltrate Blissful Retreat and later orchestrates its destruction.

Chai Rong Chai Rong The emperor for whom Emperor Chai Temple is named. While yet to be seen, his ruined temple is where you fight the boss Dalang in the main quest A Horse Neighs in the Forest.
Wei Renpu Wei Renpu An ally of the previous emperor Chai Rong who is linked to the formation of the Palace of Annals.
Tian Ying Tian Ying An assassin hailing from Qinghe posing as the heretic monk Miaoshan, who has garnered a following in Sundara Land. You fight him as the boss of the Halo Peak Campaign.

Ye Wanshan Ye Wanshan A ruthless warrior who sacrificed everything to repel the Khitans in Bodhi Sea. You fight him in an illusion at the end of the Bodhi Sea Campaign.

Lucky Seventeen Lucky Seventeen The last inhabitant of the Palace of Annals who awaits his master's return. He is the boss of the Palace of Annals Campaign.

Shi Yimo Shi Yimo A little girl you meet for the first time along the way to Blissful Retreat. She introduces you to cooking in the Exploration quest Culinary: Hotpot Fever. She is encountered again in the Qinghe Encounter - Deerforage's Remedy.
Li Zhenzhen Li Zhenzhen The real name of the Lunar Goddess who resides in the Moonlit Passage below the lake in Crimson Cliff. You encounter her at the end of the Jianghu Legacy - Blind to the World.
Yi Dao Yi Dao Also known by his moniker “Killerblade”, he is the jianghu wanderer who arrives at Qinghe in the beginning of the game. He forms an allliance with the protagonist to uncover the Aureate Pavilion's plot in Blissful Retreat.

Huiyao Huiyao The name of the rogue monk who oversees Mercyheart Monastery and was once loyal to the monk Miaoshan. He is fought as the miniboss of the Mercyheart Monastery Outpost.
Gu Le Gu Le A martial artist whom you learn the Mystic Art Veil of Stillness from in the Exploration quest Skill Theft: Unearned Lesson.
The Void King The Void King A hulking man who is encountered twice in the story: as the boss of the prologue and the lone resident of Gleaming Abyss. He is fought as the boss of the Gleaming Abyss Campaign.

Qiu Yuehai Qiu Yuehai A mysterious fisherman from Qinghe who teaches you how to perform Meteor Flight, allowing you to traverse the region by soaring into the air. He is encountered in the Jianghu Legacy - Afterglow.
Lie Yan Lie Yan A warrior of the Northern Vow whose letter can be found in the hidden passage below the Northern Vow Ruins.
Ruby Ruby Uncle Zhou's daughter from Heaven's Pier who is a close friend of the protagonist. Like the protagonist, she is interested in the jianghu and wishes to explore it with them.
Tang Xinci Tang Xinci A member of the Inkbound Order who becomes engaged in a competition with He Wanchun and Chu the Twelfth in the Encounter - A Duel of Wits.
He Wanchun He Wanchun A member of the Masked Troupe who, alongside Chu the Twelfth, is engaged in a competition against Tang Xinci in the Encounter - A Duel of Wits.
Unfated Tian Unfated Tian The proprietor of Evercare Clinic and Yao Yaoyao's master who mysteriously disappears every once in a while.
Liu Qingyi Liu Qingyi The specter of a woman who frequently appears in the depths of Gleaming Abyss, often accompanied by a man implied to be the Last Emperor.
Sheng Wen and Sheng Wu Sheng Wen and Sheng Wu Two brothers who perform shadow puppet theater. Both of them are fought as World Bosses in Floral Expanse Beyond and Battlecrest Slope.

Tian Qi Tian Qi Tian Ying's younger brother who followed in his footsteps as disciples of the Inkbound Order before they eventually parted ways. The cave hidden below Qinghe's Peace Bell Tower was once his and Tian Ying's hideout.
Zhang Long, Zhang Hu, and Zhang Bao Zhang Long, Zhang Hu, and Zhang Bao Three brothers who are affiliated with Tiger Fort in Twinbeast Ridge. While Zhang Long and Zhang Hu are the minibosses of Tiger Fort Outpost, Zhang Bao is fought as a miniboss in the Jianghu Legacy - Echoes of Old Battles.
The Shimmer of South The Shimmer of South An enigmatic figure mentioned but unseen throughout Chapter 2: Universal Furnace. He finally makes an appearance in the Jianghu Legacy - Gambit Beneath the Shimmer, where he hounds the protagonist in a series of illusions before getting away.
Big Zhao Big Zhao A resident of Kaifeng City who is widely known by the citizens there. He becomes the protagonist's closest ally in Chapter 2: Universal Furnace and occasionally appears in a few side quests in the city.
The Ember of East The Ember of East The title of Wen Wuque of Weiyang who oversees Revelry Hall in Velvet Shade. Chapter 2: Universal Furnace begins with the protagonist searching for answers by seeking Wen Wuque.
Meow Meow Meow Meow The name of the cat for whom you must solve Meow Meow Puzzles to earn Bells. After accumulating enough Bells, you can visit the Meow Meow Temple in Halo Peak to purchase items from Meow Meow.
Master Pu Master Pu The head of Zhao Manor in Prosperity Haven who is the father of Zhao Chengzong. As a close friend of Big Zhao, he acts as a vital source of information regarding dealings in Kaifeng City.
Murong Yuan Murong Yuan The leader of Jinming Pool who is the adoptive daughter of Murong Yanzhou. She is the boss of the Jinming Pool Campaign, accompanied by her Wooden Eagle.

Shi Shouxin Shi Shouxin The leader of Martial Temple and the father of Shi Zhen. He is encountered in the Jianghu Legacy - An Unholy Prophecy, when you finally gain access to the interior of Martial Temple.
Zhao Guangyi Zhao Guangyi The prefect of Kaifeng City introduced in Chapter 2: Universal Furnace, where he tasks the protagonist with uncovering the incident with the Gold-Making Vessel in Revelry Hall.
God of Avarice God of Avarice The name assumed by Lord Shi, the main antagonist of Chapter 2: Universal Furnace in the Kaifeng region. He is fought as the final boss of the chapter as well as the Furnace of Righteousness Campaign.

Gui Zhongyan Gui Zhongyan An elderly man who teaches the protagonist how to win a series of dice games in the side quest Gambler's Secret. He is later revealed to be a master prankster and the “Gambler King” himself.
Zhou Qiang Zhou Qiang The leader of the Velvet Shade sect who is briefly seen in the Jianghu Legacy - Shadows in Bloom.
Qin Ruolan Qin Ruolan A guqin player from Revelry Hall who is the subject of a conspiracy with the Jiangnan envoy in the Jianghu Legacy - Shadows in Bloom.
Zheng E Zheng E The current head of Ever-Normal Granary of the Granary of Plenty. He is the boss of the Ever-Normal Granary Campaign.

Dao Lord Dao Lord The leader of Ghostlight Market hidden below Kaifeng City. It is fought as the boss of the Unbound Cavern Campaign.

He Ran He Ran A blind swordsman who bears a grudge against Jiang Wulang. He is met for the first time in the Qinghe Encounter - Twisted Destiny.
Zhang Ankang Zhang Ankang A cook who is a central character in the Worldly Affairs questline - One Leaf, One Life.
Xue Chou Xue Chou A senior member of the Nine Mortal Ways whom you meet in the Jianghu Legacy - Streetwise Sage. He is also the guardian of the Fu, Lu, Shou sisters.
Ding Pu Ding Pu An eccentric old man who refuses to have his house destroyed in the Jianghu Legacy - Under Another's Roof.
Faceless Faceless The name given to the Ghost Mistresses held captive by the Unbound Cavern of Ghost Revelry Hall.
Liu Zhuang Liu Zhuang The bell-ringer who lives in the sewers of Ash Pit in Forsaken Quarter. He is the first person you meet upon arriving there in the Unbound Cavern Campaign.
Zhuxie Gule Zhuxie Gule A massive warrior found toward the end of the Unbound Cavern Campaign, where he is fought alongside his pet bird.
Chen Quan Chen Quan The Drunken Martial Artist you fight as the World Boss near the Grand Canal of Jadewood Court.
Kun the Youngest Kun the Youngest The owner of a mask shop in Ghostlight Market who is a close friend of Ni Laoshan of the Nine Mortal Ways.
Jiang Kui Jiang Kui The real name of Ghost Master who is fought as the World Boss of Mistveil Forest. In life, he dressed himself in a wedding gown in a gambit to protect his sister from an arranged marriage.

Shi Xiaoshi Shi Xiaoshi The owner of Uncut Jade in Ghostlight Market. You can purchase stones from him to engage in “Stone Gambling”, where you mine the stones to potentially obtain a reward.
Yu Xiaoyao Yu Xiaoyao The owner of Half-Face Makeup Shop in Ghostlight Market. This is where you can put on a disguise.
Wei Zhixi Wei Zhixi The mother of Zhao Chengzong who is actually the famed Star Stealer responsible for attempting to steal the Canglang Sword Manual. She is met in person at the end of the Jianghu Legacy - Veiled Blades.
Zhao Chengzong Zhao Chengzong The son of Master Pu and Wei Zhixi. You accompany him throughout the Jianghu Legacy - Veiled Blades to recover the Canglang Sword Manual.
Ni Laoshan Ni Laoshan The leader of the Nine Mortal Ways who is hardly seen in Ghostlight Market. You can meet him face-to-face when you decide to leave the Nine Mortal Ways, which is when he tells you to pay him 50,000 coins to officially leave the sect.
Shen Yilun Shen Yilun The original master of Ever-Normal Granary before it was taken over by Zheng E. He and Zheng E were once childhood friends.
Zhai Xu Zhai Xu A Silver Needle disciple whom you meet in the Encounter - The Ephemeral Blight. He enlists your help in finding the cure to the Dawn-to-Dusk plague in Mistveil Forest.
Feng Yi Feng Yi The identity of the current River Master of Heavenfall. He is encountered for the very first time as the boatman who takes you to Kaifeng in Chapter 2: Universal Furnace.

Zhang Yanling Zhang Yanling The tablet carver who resides in the decrepit Eternal Solitude Hall in Fishwood River. You meet him in the Jianghu Legacy - The River's Fury.
He Yuezhi He Yuezhi A warrior who participated in the massacre of Zheng Manor years before the start of the game. He is a miniboss in the Jianghu Legacy - Twelve Years of Feuds.
Widow Zhou Widow Zhou An impoverished woman who appears as a side character in Chapter 2: Universal Furnace. She resorts to stealing to support herself and her infant child.
Granny Turtle Granny Turtle An elderly woman who resides in Kaifeng City's Forsaken Quarter with her daughter Yingying. She sells plush turtles, hence her nickname.
Wolf Maiden Wolf Maiden A World Boss encountered at night in Desperation Ridge. She is actually a member of the Zheng family who fled from the massacre years before.
Murong Yanzhao Murong Yanzhao The adoptive father of Murong Yuan who was the previous leader of Jinming Pool. You briefly interact with him in the Jinming Pool Campaign where he is seen bound to a chair.
Nameless General Nameless General The title given to the mysterious general you fight at the assembly in Martial Temple. He somehow possesses the ability to call on lightning and thunder.

Character entries are unlocked by naturally progressing through the story of the game, whether through main quests or side quests. These entries cover characters with important lore attached to them, so you won't see entries on random NPCs scattered in the overworld.
