Marathon Cryo Archive Map New Updates and Hints
Revealed as [REDACTED] on Map Selection Screen

Marathon is gearing up towards its fourth map, Cryo Archive, as developer Bungie continues to tease fans with several updates on the game. Earlier today, fans spotted a new entry on the map selection screen titled ">://REDACTED," which is primarily believed to be the first endgame zone of the derelict USEC ship.
While the map description remains brief, recent updates suggest the highly anticipated frozen zone may be unlocked soon. Fans are actively deconstructing Marathon’s ARG (Alternate Reality Game) to uncover further details and are steadily unearthing the map’s remaining secrets.

Bungie also provided additional information about the map through several cryptic messages featured in the game's most recent updates. Titled "Survey Module Unlocked," the post described the Marathon Planetary Index as "fragmented" and the Tau Ceti IV Terrain data as "Awaiting Verification."
Furthermore, the post instructed players to "infil to zones [perimeter; dire marsh; outpost], observe surroundings, and gain understanding of the zone layout." The update capped off with a lengthy cipher that fans are still working to decode.
Entry Requirements Uncovered

The Marathon community has recently discovered the requirements to unlock the Cryo Archive map. According to the latest update, players must unlock every faction in the game and reach level 25 to enter this fourth zone.
This new information is available via the Marathon Discord server, where players can obtain a DAC (Digital Authorization Certificate). Once acquired, they may then upload the certificate to the "Index" section of the Cryo Archive Systems website and locate Entry_0788 to view the data.

The Cryo Archive map is slated to launch during Marathon’s first season, which spans from March to June 2026. It is expected to arrive by the second half of March, and the community is buzzing as they piece together the final details of the extraction shooter’s first endgame environment.
So far, the community has unlocked nine video feeds in the Cryo Archive ARG, providing grainy but vital footage of the interior zones. These feeds have revealed the "Biostock Preservation" wing and the "Steerage" industrial sectors, confirming that the map takes place within the derelict hull of the UESC Marathon.
Bungie Admits Overcorrection on Latest Update

Following Marathon’s latest balance patch, fans have been critical of the increase in the audio range of gunshots and firefights, which they felt have made the game more aggressive and too chaotic. In a Steam post on March 14, Bungie acknowledged these concerns and plans to resolve them in next week’s update.
"We recognize that this was an overcorrection and will pull things back in a way that maintains your ability to hear each other's actions, but not at a distance that feels excessive. We're still aligning on how to ensure the best player experience and will deploy changes in an upcoming update," they stated.
Aside from the audio distance fix, Bungie also looks to add "a little more space" in players’ Vault. Stack sizes for consumables, ammo, salvage, and grenades will be increased, and new filters will be added for keys and backpacks.

Furthermore, Bungie wants to address the technical and balance updates for Marathon, starting with a long-term commitment to high-end PC performance. While the initial launch prioritized accessibility for low- and mid-spec hardware, the team is now developing a hardware optimization guide for the near term while transparently noting that significant high-spec improvements will roll out incrementally over several seasons.
Finally, the dev team has delivered a server-side hotfix that has officially ended a "Credit Heist" exploit, preventing Rooks from receiving bonus currency by immediately exiting runs after loading in. Bungie urges players to continue sharing feedback, which will be used to further refine and enhance the experience for the entire community.
