Build Explanation |
---|
This build is centered on shoving targets away from Mewtwo with Future Sight and blasting them with attacks to maximize the move's additional damage effect. Recover allows Mewtwo to convert its attack damage into HP, healing the Pokemon and prolonging its life during fights. |
· Muscle Band improves Mega Mewtwo Y's attacks through increased damage and attack speed. It also helps the Pokemon to fill up its Mega gauge faster. · Slick Spoon gives Mega Mewtwo Y a decent amount of Sp. Atk. and the ability to ignore a portion of its target's Sp. Def., improving its attack damage further, particularly when Mega evolved. · Rapid-Fire Scarf provides Mega Mewtwo Y with a massive attack speed buff from time to time, allowing it to unleash more attacks during Future Sight. · However, Scope Lens can be a replacement for Slick Spoon, increasing Mega Mewtwo Y's critical-hit rate and damage. · X Attack gives Mega Mewtwo Y more damage and attack speed to work with. · The build's Boost Emblem loadout should consist of 7 Black Emblems for some move cooldown reduction and 6 Green Emblem to maximize its damage. · Equip Emblems that improve Sp. Atk. or Critical-Hit Rate to further improve Mega Mewtwo Y's attacks. · Attack, Sp. Def., and Defense can be freely traded for the other stats. |

Since the build focuses more on attacks, equipping items that will maximize Mega Mewtwo Y's attack damage is the ideal item combination.
Out of all the item combinations, Muscle Band, Scope Lens, and Rapid-Fire Scarf will work best for the build. Although the item combination produced the lowest results, the massive attack speed buff from Rapid-Fire Scarf will translate into more damage in the long run.
As for alternatives, replacing Rapid-Fire Scarf with Wise Glasses or Slick Spoon would be the ideal choice. The item combination with Wise Glasses generated the second best results that is only slightly lower than the top. On the other hand, equipping Slick Spoon grants Mega Mewtwo Y both Sp. Atk. and HP for a more balanced build.

Build Explanation |
---|
This build utilizes the distance-based damage from Psystrike to knock out targets and using Teleport to maneuver around and increase its damage further. Mega Mewtwo Y will rely mostly on Psystrike as its primary damage source. |
· Wise Glasses provides Mega Mewtwo Y a large Sp. Atk. stat boost thanks to its percentage bonus, which also goes well with the Pokemon's ability to increase its Sp. Atk. via Pressure · Choice Specs gives Mega Mewtwo Y more Sp. Atk. stat and increases its minimum move damage, particularly for Psystrike. · Slick Spoon further adds more Sp. Atk. stat and grants Mega Mewtwo Y Sp. Def. penetration for its moves. It also gives a decent amount of HP for some durability. · Eject Button gives Mega Mewtwo Y extra mobility on top of Teleport, allowing it to make more creative plays when setting up Psystrike. · The build's Boost Emblem loadout should consist of 7 Black Emblems for some move cooldown reduction and 6 Green Emblem to maximize its damage. · Equip Emblems that improve Sp. Atk. to further improve Mega Mewtwo Y's move damage, particularly for Psystrike. · Attack, Sp. Def., and Defense can be freely traded for the other stats. |

Since the build is centered mainly around Psystrike, equipping items that will maximize its damage is the ideal item combination.
As the results show, Wise Glasses, Choice Specs, and Slick Spoon will produce the best results for the build. The item combination generated the top score for the tests and doesn't require Mewtwo to stack an item.

Item | Explanation |
---|---|

Scope Lens | Scope Lens makes Mega Mewtwo Y's attack deadlier, increasing its critical-hit rate and damage. |
Muscle Band | Muscle Band improves Mega Mewtwo Y's attacks through increased damage and attack speed. |
Choice Specs | Choice Specs gives Mega Mewtwo Y a decent amount of Sp. Atk. and increases its minimum move damage. |
Rapid-Fire Scarf | Rapid-Fire Scarf gives Mega Mewtwo Y a massive attack speed boost that goes well with the attack speed increase from Pressure. |

Item | Explanation |
---|---|
Eject Button | Eject Button gives Mega Mewtwo Y more mobility on top of Teleport. |
X Attack | X Attack grants Mega Mewtwo Y a large efficiency boost through damage and atack speed. |
Move | Explanation |
---|---|
Future Sight | Future Sight allows Mega Mewtwo Y to fend off opponents that try to get close to the Pokemon. The target is also slowed and takes increased damage. |
Recover | Recover gives Mega Mewtwo Y shielding, mobility, cooldown reduction, and HP recovery in one simple move. |
This moveset harnesses Mega Mewtwo Y's dangerous ranged attacks when it's Mega evolved. Since the Pokemon needs to always keep its distance from enemies, Future Sight's slow and pushback mechanic makes it the perfect tool to keep them at bay. It also increases the damage taken by the target, especially from Mega Mewtwo Y's attacks. Recover increases the Pokemon's survivability during fights by giving it a shield, increased movement speed, and the ability to heal itself with its basic attacks. It also reduces its move cooldowns when the shield disappears.
Future Sight and Psystrike are Mega Mewtwo Y's primary damage moves. Choosing one changes the Pokemon's gameplay to some degree.
When going for Future Sight, Mega Mewtwo Y will mostly rely on its attacks as its primary source of damage, since the move itself deals little damage and will only deal significant damage if the Pokemon bombards the target with attacks after using the move. Choosing this move essentially turns Mega Mewtwo Y into an attack-damage damage dealer.
As for Psystrike, Mega Mewtwo Y will have a traditional Sp. Atk. Attacker gameplay, relying mostly on moves to take out opponents. Although the move does significantly more damage compared to Future Sight, it does require some setup to maximize its effeciency since it does more damage the farther away Mega Mewtwo Y is from the target.
On the other hand, Teleport and Recover are Mega Mewtwo Y's complimentary moves. They offer the Pokemon some utility to enhance its other moveset and helps in filling up its Mega gauge faster.
Choosing Teleport gives Mega Mewtwo Y a simple mobility tool but also increases its damage output for a short duration. Meanwhile, Recover is purely a utility tool, shielding and healing the Pokemon while also increasing its movement speed and reducing the Pokemon's move cooldowns. Selecting a move to pair with Future Sight or Psystrike is ultimately up to player preference due both moveset having incredible synergy with each other.

Although Mewtwo Y is already strong at the start, it only unlocks its true potential once it reaches level 5 and is now able to Mega Evolve. Given this, it's best to focus on farming and leveling up to level 5 in the early game.
Make sure to utilize Confusion and Barrier in the early game to help Mewtwo Y level up faster. Use Confusion to either secure wild Pokemon or engage in fights. Meanwhile, use Barrier to either escape or start fights.

Mewtwo Y's core gameplay mainly revolves around its ability, Pressure, and it is also the primary source of its strength. Understanding how it works and utilizing its effects and mechanics are key to playing Mewtwo Y effectively.
Pressure: Mega Mewtwo Y Passive Effect and Cooldown
Whenever Mewtwo Y hits opponents with standard attacks, its Mega Evolution gauge fills up, and the more the gauge fills up, the more the Pokemon's Sp. Atk and attack speed increases, making the Pokemon more powerful with each attack. Managing this gauge is central to Mewtwo Y's gameplay.
Remember that only standard attacks can fill up the gauge, using moves will not.
Tip: Avoid triggering the Mega Evolution before the fight starts as opponents can simply back off and wait for the effect to expire. Try to anticipate when a fight will start before committing to it. |
Aeos Energy Consumed | Mega Evolution Duration |
---|---|
0 | 10 seconds |
25 | 15 seconds |
30 | 15 seconds |
It's best to always have at least 25 Aeos Energy to prolong the duration of the Mega Evolution. Although triggering the Mega Evolution consumes 30 Aeos Energy at the max, there is no significant difference in terms of duration between consuming 30 Aeos Energy and 25 Aeos Energy.
Given this mechanic, it's best to avoid scoring points if the gauge is about to be full. Instead, only score points if the gauge is below half to give Mewtwo Y time to farm Aeos Energy again, or once Mewtwo Y mega evolves.
Note: Mewtwo Y can still Mega Evolve even with no Aeos Energy. |
While mega evolved, Mewtwo Y's Sp. Atk and basic attack speed increase even more, it gains increased movement speed, and its attacks deal damage in an area around the main target.
Always take advantage of these effects once Mewtwo Y mega evolves, and turn up the aggression by bombarding opponents with attacks and moves since the Pokemon is at its strongest during this state.
Tip: Always get the orange buff from Escavalier or Bouffalant to compliment Mewtwo Y's ranged attacks while it's mega evolved. |
Although they function differently, Future Sight or Psystrike should be used to keep opponents from getting close to Mewtwo Y, allowing the Pokemon to freely attack from a safe range. In particular, Psystrike can also be used to poke opponents from range since it deals increased damage the farther away they are from Mewtwo Y.

Generally, Future Sight can go well with either Teleport or Recover while Psystrike works best with Teleport. However, it ultimately depends on the opponents' team composition.
Note: These are only basic guidelines. Move execution will still play a significant role. |

Start the combo by using Teleport to relocate to a desired position, then immediately follow up with Future Sight. While the target is locked on, attack it continuously until Future Sight's effect ends. Teleport's second activation can be used to chase the target or get into a safer position, depending on the situation. This combo can be used to quickly fill up the Mega gauge, or used while Mega evolved for a devasting damage. Infinite Psyburn can also be used immediately after Future Sight to keep the target stunned. |
Psychic Downpour Combo | |
---|---|
Initiate the combo by getting close to a target using Teleport, then immediately following up with Psystrike. While the target is knocked up after Psystrike ends, use Infinite Psyburn to stun the target. Follow up with attacks until the target is knocked out. The combo is most effective when Psystrike knocks up multiple enemies, ensuring that Infinite Psyburn also hits them. |

Mewtwo Y is an Attacker and is not exempted from the Attacker role's glaring weaknesses. While it is equipped to deal high burst damage, Pokemon that can quickly burst it down in one attempt will have an easy time dealing with Mewtwo Y.
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Zoroark | Rating: ★★★★★ • Can quickly take out Mewtwo Y using Night Slash or Feint Attack and Nightfall Daze. |
Leafeon | Rating: ★★★★★ • Can burst down Mewtwo Y using Solar Blade or Razor Leaf and Emerald Two-Step. |
Talonflame | Rating: ★★★★ • Can snipe Mewtwo Y from afar using Brave Bird or approach it safely and burst it down with Fly. • Can displace Mewtwo Y using Flame Sweep. |
Utilizing Mewtwo Y's ranged gameplay and creating openings for its boosted Standard Attacks lets it win against these Pokemon.
Ranged, Fragile Pokemon with High Damage |
---|
How to Beat |
• Much like Mewtwo Y, these Pokemon prefer to keep their distance from opponents when fighting. They also have high damage potential that can be dangerous for Mewtwo Y. However, they are fragile and can get knocked out by Mewtwo Y fast. Winning against them is just a matter of striking first. • Use Future Sight or Psystrike to poke them, then just bombard them with ranged attacks. • Use Recover to tank some of their damage, or use Teleport to avoid their attacks. • Use Infinite Psyburn for additional damage and disable if needed. |
All-Rounders |
---|
How to Beat |
• These Pokemon excel in close combat and rely mostly on their attacks or combos to deal damage. They are also durable enough to tank Mewtwo Y's damage. However, Mewtwo Y can easily kite them with ranged attacks and moves. • Use Future Sight or Psystrike to keep them at bay, then just kite them with attacks. • Use Teleport or Recover to maintain a safe range. • Use Infinite Psyburn for additional damage and disable if needed. |
High-mobility Pokemon with Burst Damage |
---|
How to Beat |
• These Pokemon are incredibly agile and deal high burst damage. However, they become vulnerable when they miss their burst damage attempt. • Use Teleport or Recover to dodge their burst attempt, then retaliate with Future Sight or Psystrike and attacks. • Use Infinite Psyburn for additional damage and disable if needed. |
Highly Durable Pokemon |
---|
How to Beat |
• These Pokemon are extremely durable, making it difficult for Mewtwo Y to take them down alone. With that, it's best to group up with allies to bring them down with the help of Mewtwo Y. • While maintaining a safe distance, use Future Sight or Psystrike to disable them, then just bombard them with attacks to deplete their HP. |
Easy matchups are Pokemon that can get overpowered by Mewtwo's attacks either through damage alone or by kiting.
