Lobby chat allows everyone inside the lobby to have conversations, even if they are not friends in the game.

How to Chat Privately

Pokemon UNITE - Requirements for Unlocking Private Chat

Private chats are conversations only between two friends. It is only unlocked if both friends have played 5 or more games together. It is best to invite friends and play together.

Text messages have a 50 word limit in chats. Words that are deemed inappropriate are displayed as ***, so it is advised to avoid sending them.
