The World Championship Series 2023 is a 5-on-5 Team Battle Arena that will use Pokemon UNITE's Tournament Mode as the game mode. Since Tournament Mode now features draft picking, we are excited on how this will shape up the championship series!
Tournament Mode Guide:
Custom Rules and How to Use
Qualifying Events will be held each month with no entry cost from February, culminating with a monthly finals where Championship Points (CP) will be rewarded.
This tournament will be available for players on all platforms that Pokemon UNITE is in: Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android! Since crossplay is supported, teams can freely choose which platform they prefer.
Teams will have to accumulate championship points or CP to get an invite to the World Championships. Monthly tournaments that will run from February to June is every team's chance to accumulate Championship Points!
A series of qualifying tournaments will be held on each Regional Zone each month where players will fight for a spot in that month's final.
The monthly Open Qualifier round will also pit teams in a double-elimination format. The top 16 teams will advance to the Monthly Finals!
Qualified teams will go head to head in their own region's monthly finals where they can earn championship poitns (CP)!
Teams with the most CP's will qualify for the Regional Championships! Championship Points will be retained by individual players so changing of teams are allowed during the season.
The first monthly finals of the year (February) will be open for the top 16 teams in the Open Qualifiers. The succeeding months will only allow 12 invites from the Open Qualifiers where the remaining 4 will be the top 4 teams from previous month's Monthly Finals, including the Aeos Cup.
Note: Top 4 teams will neeed to keep 4 out of 5 players on their roster to maintain top 4 status. Taking another player who has competed in the current month's Open Qualifier as a replacement is not allowed. |
Event | # from Open Qualifiers | # from Previous Month's Top 4 | # from Total CP Count | Total # of Teams |
---|---|---|---|---|
February Finals | 16 | 0 | 0 | 16 |
March Finals | 12 | 4 | 0 | 16 |
Aeos Cup | 12 | 4 | 0 | 16 |
May Finals | 12 | 4 | 0 | 16 |
Regional Championships | 12 | 4 | 8 | 24 |
Aeos Cup is a special tournament that happens in the middle of the tournament season. This tournament provides player with prize money and more championship points (CP) that the usual monthly tournaments!
Regional Championships will be a mix of teams with the top CP in each Regional Zone, top teams from the previous month's tournament, and teams that earned a spot via the the Regional LCQ. Here's a breakdown on how many teams will be included:
8 Teams | Top Teams in CP in each Regional Zone (via Total CP Count) |
4 Teams | Top Teams from the Previous Month's Tournament (May Finals) |
12 Teams | Spot Earned via LCQ |
CP will be used to determine who earns a direct spot in the Regional Championships and the team seeding in monthly qualifying events.
Top Teams that has shown their mettle during the championship series season will receive an invitation and a travel award to the 2023 World Championships in Yokohama, Japan!
Qualifying teams must maintain the same five-player roster used to earn their invitation.
