When you first start the game, you will immediately be put in the first two stages of the tutorial. After the first two stages, you will be free to choose what to do next in the game.
However, you should still complete the 6 stages of the tutorial since it will give you a lot of valuable knowledge about the game. Completing the tutorial will also reward you currency that you can use to unlock more pokemon in the shop.
Another action we recommend is to view and change your settings to your preference. You can easily navigate to the settings by pressing X while in the main menu, then selecting the bottom option in the sidebar.
On the second option of the Settings menu, players can change battle settings like which Pokemon to target automatically and target sensitivity. Other settings such as which of multiple opponents should be targeted, and which button targets which type of enemy, can be changed here to streamline play.
Before heading into battle, you should give a quick rundown of the in-game controls for controlling your pokemon. You can also change the button mapping to better suit your controller preference.
Fair Play Points reward you for playing the game properly. Players can lose Fair Play Points from delaying matches, leaving matches prematurely, and not playing at all! So, it is best to always be at your best behavior.
Be sure to check your fair play points every now and then to check up on your standing, and claim any pending rewards you might have.
You should frequently check your Mail in the game to claim any and all free rewards that the game gives to you. In order check your Mail, you simply need to press X while in the main menu and navigate down and select Mail.
It is also possible to collect more rewards through Challenges, the Battle Pass, and Events screens, so be sure to check through all of them to get as many free bonuses as possible before getting into the game.
With over 20+ Pokemon in the game's roster, each with their own unique stats and abilities, it is good to have a main Pokemon that you know how to use effectively.
Try to practice with a single Pokemon for a while to get used to their playstyle.
