Tank Build Explanation

This build revolves around providing crowd control for your team using Muddy Water and Flip Turn.

  • Slick Spoon gives a nice amount of Sp. Atk. and HP, and allows Vaporeon to ignore a portion of its target's Sp. Def., which translates to more damage.
  • Tenacity Belt improves Vaporeon's durability via increased Sp. Def. and Defense, and allows it to tank hindrances for its team.
  • Focus Band provides Vaporeon more Sp. Def. and Defense, and improves its survivability via a passive healing.
  • Buddy Barrier or Resonant Guard can be a replacement for Focus Band, exchanging defenses for higher HP and shields.
  • Eject Button gives Vaporeon a repositioning tool to set up its moves.
  • Potion can also work with the build, providing a quick healing tool during fights.
  • The build's Boost Emblem loadout should consist of 6 White Emblems to maximize Vaporeon's HP and 6 Green Emblems for additional damage. This can be achieved by having at least two (2) Emblems that are both White and Green.
  • Equip Emblems that improve Sp. Atk. and HP to give Vaporeon a bit of damage and durability.
  • Attack and Critical-Hit Rate can be freely traded for the other stats.

  • Resonant Guard grants Vaporeon HP, HP recovery, and the ability to generate shields for its allies.
  • Rescue Hood provides Vaporeon a nice amount of Sp. Def. and Defense, and improves the healing from Aqua Ring and the shield from Resonant Guard.
  • Buddy Barrier can be a replacement for Rescue Hood if you want more HP.
  • Slick Spoon can also be a replacement for Rescue Hood if you want both HP and a bit of offense.
  • Eject Button gives Vaporeon a repositioning tool to set up its moves.
  • The build's Boost Emblem loadout should consist of 6 White Emblems to maximize Vaporeon's HP and 6 Green Emblems for additional damage. This can be achieved by having at least two (2) Emblems that are both White and Green.

How to Play Vaporeon

Reach Level 4 Quickly

Just like all othe Eeveelutions, it's best to reach level 4 as fast as possible once the game starts since Vaporeon learns its first main move at that level. Upon reaching level 4, you can use the early primary move to your advantage and gain an early lead.

Utilize Water Absorb's Cooldown Mechanic

Much of Vaporeon's durability comes from the shield generated by its ability, Water Absorb, making it a central factor to the Pokemon's gameplay.

After the ability is triggered, it goes on cooldown. You can reduce the ability's cooldown by hitting opponents with moves or boosted attacks. Given this, make sure to utilize this mechanic to keep generating the shield as often as possible throughout the match.

Water Absorb: Vaporeon Passive Effect and Cooldown

Provide Constant Crowd Control for the Team

Vaporeon has a lot of crowd control moves that stuns and/or shoves opponents, which are incredibly useful during teamfight. Given this, your gameplay should revolve around providing constant crowd control using Hyrdo Pump or Muddy Water and/or Flip Turn and tanking hits for your allies.

Stick with Allies When Using Aqua Ring

If Vaporeon learns Aqua Ring, it essentially turns the Pokemon into a Supporter, since it's a recovery move. To maximize the move's effect, it's best to stick with your allies just like a Supporter and provide constant healing during fights.

Additionally, your gameplay now changes to a cross between a Defender and Supporter, tanking damage while healing allies.

Initiate Fights with Aquamarine Splash

Aquamarine Splash pulls nearby opponents then throws them afterwards, making it a great move for setting up fights for your team. It's best to use the move to initiate fights rather than finish off targets, especially during crucial teamfights.
