Damage Build Explanation

This build focuses on maxing out Moltres' damage output, particularly its move damage.

  • Wise Glasses gives Moltres a large Sp. Atk. boost thanks to its percentage-based bonus.
  • Slick Spoon provides Moltres with HP, more Sp. Atk., and the ability to ignore a portion of its target's Sp.Def., leading to more damage.
  • Drive Lens further improves Moltres' Sp. Atk. whenever it knocks out opponents or gets an assist. It also provides a bit of cooldown reduction.
  • Sp. Atk. Specs can be a replacement for any of the items should you want more flat Sp. Atk.
  • Rapid-fire Scarf can also work for the build, allowing Moltres to build up burn counters and boosted attacks.
  • X Speed allows Moltres to stay on top of its targets and attack.
  • Eject Button can also work for the build.
  • The build's Boost Emblem loadout should consist of 6 Green Emblems for more damage and 6 White Emblems for HP. This can be achieved by having at least two (2) Emblems that are both Green and White.
  • Equip Emblems that improve Sp. Atk. to further boost Moltres' damage.
  • Attack and Critical-Hit Rate can be freely traded for the other stats.

How to Play Moltres

Play Around the Boosted Attack Cooldown Reset

When Moltres' boosted attack hits opponents, the Pokemon can use one move instantly, and the Unite Move gauge charges slightly. This greatly improves Moltres' impact during fights as it can potentially quickly take out low-durability targets in one combo.

Play around this effect by always making sure that Moltres will have a boosted attack before or after initiating fights to maximize its impact.

Take Note of the Burn Counter When Using Incinerate or Heat Wave

Moltres' ability, Flame Body, leaves targets burned and increases their burn counter. The burn counter mechanic is primarily used by Incinerate and Heat Wave, increasing the moves' damage based on the counter.

With this in mind, always look at the target's burn counter before using Incinerate or Heat Wave. Ideally, you'd want to wait until the counter is full before consuming it to maximize Incinerate or Heat Wave's damage.

Hit Multiple Opponents with Sky Attack

Apart from dealing damage, Sky Attack increases Moltres' Defense and Sp. Def. for a short time when the move hits opponents. The more opponents Sky Attack hits, the more Defense and Sp. Def. Moltres gains, making Moltres more durable against enemy damage.

Since Sky Attack is Moltres' primary initiation move, you'll ideally want to hit as many opponents as possible to maximize the effect.

Sky Attack: Moltres Move Effect and Cooldown

Initiate Fights with Firebird Inferno

Since FIrebird Inferno instantly fills up the burn counters of all the opponents the move hits, it's best to start fights with the move. Doing so allows Moltres to easily trigger Heat Wave's bonus damage.
