Has the user electrify itself and charge ahead, throwing opposing Pokemon. For a short time after the user lands, the user's movement speed is increased.
Volt Tackle is a great move for interrupting or canceling an enemy's moves. While Thunderbolt can also interrupt enemy moves, Volt Tackle is easier to use and is a guaranteed hit.
Compared to Thunderbolt, Volt Tackle is a single-target move while Thunderbolt is an area of effect move, limiting you to stun only 1 target. Nonetheless, it's still a tool for setting up kills.
After Pikachu uses Volt Tackle, it flips back away from the target, creating distance between the target and Pikachu. You can use this mechanic against melee Pokemon who try to attack and chase you, creating ample space so you can cast moves from a safe distance.
If you have Eject Button equipped, you can use it immediately after Pikachu lands, creating more space.

Volt tackle has a potential to jump opponents by turning Pikachu during the move. I haven't quite worked it out yet, but I've done it by accident quite a few times. This might get patched, but so far, it could be a huge advantage for one can learn to pull it off consistently.
