Gardevoir Gardevoir |
・ Good against many of the required battles in the DLC story ・ Able to learn a wide variety of moves through TMs to help with move type coverage ・ Can Mega Evolve with the Gardevoirite |
Garchomp Garchomp |
・ A Ground-type Pokemon that resists Fire-type moves, which is valuable in several story battles ・ Able to learn a wide variety of moves through TMs to help with move type coverage ・ Can be replaced with Swampert if you've obtained this Pokemon |
Greninja Greninja |
・ Good against Ghost, Psychic, Fire, Ground, and Rock types ・ Can be built as a Physical or Special attacker ・ Greninjite Mega Stone can be obtained through Ranked Battles |
Raichu Raichu |
・ Good against many Water types you may encounter in the DLC ・ Best equipped with the Raichunite X Mega Stone for a Physical Raichu |
Lucario Lucario |
・ Best used against Dark types ・ Has many resistances thanks to its Steel typing ・ Can Mega Evolve with the Lucarionite |
Charizard Charizard |
・ Not really useful for DLC story battles, but provides helpful coverage when exploring Hyperspace Lumiose ・ Can Mega Evolve into either Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y |
The best Pokemon to have on your team when starting the Mega Dimension DLC are Gardevoir, Garchomp, Greninja, Raichu, Lucario, and Charizard. Substitutions can be made to better approach specific battles, but this team at level 100 should still be able to get you through the entire DLC.
Gardevoir will likely be the MVP of your Mega Dimension team. It's good against several Rogue Mega Pokemon as well as Trainers you will need to battle in the DLC.
Garchomp is another valuable member of your team that is best used against any Fire type you'll encounter in the DLC. However, it may struggle in the battle against Jacinthe and Griselle in Hyperspace Mission 8. You may want to swap it with Swampert instead if you're able to catch it or a Mudkip in a Hyperspace Wild Zone, since they function similarly but have different weaknesses.

You should still be able to use the team you used to complete the main story of Pokemon Legends: Z-A as long as you level all your Pokemon up to level 100. In the DLC, Pokemon in Hyperspace Lumiose are all above level 100. While you can augment your level through donuts, it's best to maximize your Pokemon levels first so the donuts don't have to do all the heavy lifting.
However, if you're using Excadrill on your team, which we recommended for the base game story, you may want to consider swapping it out for another Ground type. In all of the DLC story battles where Ground-type Pokemon are best used, the opponent/s will have moves that Excadrill is weak to such as Fire, Ground, and Fighting. Pokemon such as Garchomp or Swampert are better choices for the DLC instead.

Blaziken Blaziken |
Swampert Swampert |
The Hoenn starter Pokemon—Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert—are available in Hyperspace Wild Zones in the Mega Dimension DLC. All three Pokemon can be very beneficial to your team as you go through Hyperspace Missions.
Swampert especially is good against many Ground-, Fire-, and Steel-type Pokemon you will encounter in the DLC, including certain Legendaries.
Although these Pokemon have Mega Evolutions introduced back in the Generation 6 games, their Mega Stones are not available at the time of the Mega Dimension DLC's release. Their stones can be obtained over time through Ranked Battles, with the Sceptilite first becoming available in Ranked Battle Season 5.

Some Pokemon in the base game such as Raichu and Meowstic have been given new Mega Evolutions in the Mega Dimension DLC. If you've used these Pokemon in the base game or are now interested in using them to check out their new Mega forms, it may be worth adding them to your party and equipping them with a Mega Stone when you obtain them in the DLC.
Take note that Mega Lucario Z is only available after completing all Hyperspace Missions and completing Side Mission 197, so you won't really be able to use it during the story. But it's still a good Pokemon to have for exploring Hyperspace Lumiose in the post-game.
There are also new Pokemon added in the DLC that have new Mega Evolutions as well. Some of these can be encountered as you progress through the DLC story, while others can be found in Hyperspace Wild Zones.
All New Mega Evolutions in the DLC

Heatran is a Fire- and Steel-type Legendary Pokemon that is good both offensively and defensively. It has also been given a Mega Stone in this DLC.
You can obtain Heatran and its Mega Stone during Hyperspace Mission 9. It may not be too helpful for story battles after this point, but it can help you grind out survey points in hyperspace distortions and help you complete side missions with battles.
Heatran Location, Evolution, and Stats

The Mega Dimension DLC makes several Mythical and Legendary Pokemon easily available in the game. However, most of these are only available in the game after completing the DLC story—through side missions or special scans.
These are still good Pokemon to add to your team if you wish to continue exploring hyperspace distortions, since Mythical and Legendary Pokemon tend to be much stronger. Legendary Pokemon obtained through special scans are also not Shiny-locked, which means you can Shiny hunt for them.
