Our team has speculated that Snivy, Charmander, and Piplup will be the starter Pokemon for Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

With the re-introduction of Mega Evolution, we think that the next starters would not have any known Mega Evolutions. This gives the developers freedom in introducing exciting new Mega Evolution designs for these starters!

We also considered how Pokemon Legends Arceus have mixed generation starters even though the game is generally set it Hisui, the old name for the Generation 4's region: Sinnoh.

We speculate that Snivy is the Grass-type starter in Pokemon Legends: Z-A due to its evolution, Serperior, being designed after French Aristocracy.

In Volume 201 of the Nintedo Dream magazine released in 2011, Ken Sugimori explained that Serperior's design was inspired by the character of Lady Oscar from the Manga Rose of Versailles which takes place in France. With Kalos being based on France, we think Snivy and its evolutions will be the Grass starter of the game!

We speculate that Charmander is the Fire-type starter in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Dragons feature in some French Heraldry either as a standalone symbol or part of the popular Saint George and the Dragon imagery.

Charizard is also the only starter Pokemon whose two Mega Evolutions were featured prominently in Pokemon X and Y as version exclusives, and there's a possibility that we may even see a Mega Charizard Z in the game!

Charizard has also been a series staple for featuring new battle mechanics, with it receiving a Gigantamax Form in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so it will be no surprise if we see the Flame Pokemon in this game!

We're also considering Litten and its evolution line as the possible Fire-type starter. While its design doesn't evoke or have any connection to Kalos, it also has the most ambiguous design of all the Fire-type starters which would make it a great choice for the game to try something new with its evolution line!

Mega Incineroar may be too over-powered competitively however, with its regular form already a meta staple due to its great typing, Intimidate Ability, and Fake Out!

Finally, we speculate that Empoleon will be the game's Water-type starter. Its evolution, Empoleon, is named after Napoleon Bonaparte, who was a military commander during the French Revolution and became Emperor of France.

With the Kalos Region based on real-life France, Piplup and its evolution line is the perfect choice for the game due to its French-inspired design!
