Charizard
|
Recommended Moves: ・Fire Fang ・Fire Spin ・Fire Blast ・Flamethrower How to Get: ・Evolve from Charmander Line, obtained from Side Mission 22. Charizard is a Kanto Starter evolution with a moveset that builds around offensive Fire-type moves, making it suitable for more aggressive playstyles. Its rotation of powerful Fire-type moves makes it an optimal counter against Mega Victreebel. |
Charizard is the most optimal counter against Mega Victreebel due to its type and moveset.
Charizard is a Fire/Flying-type, which makes it double effective against Mega Victreebel who is weak against both. It is also capable of learning more Fire-type moves compared to other Pokemon, giving you a wider variety of attacks to strategize around.

Charizardite X and Y can be bought from the Stone Emporium for 100,000 P. The Stone Emporium is located to the north of Wild Zone 1, below the Pokemon Center.
Charizardite X can be used to evolve Charizard to Mega Charizard X, while Y will evolve to Mega Charizard Y.
When facing off against Mega Victreebel, we recommend using Mega Charizard Y, since its Fire/Flying form is more effective compared to its Fire/Dragon if you evolve to Mega Charizard X.
How to Get Charizardite Y Mega Stone
| Fire Spin → Fire Blast → Flamethrower → Fire Fang → Fire Spin |
Fire Spin will create a Fire AoE under Mega Victreebel, dealing continuous damage as long as it is within the circle. This is especially effective given that Victreebel's large size will make it difficult to move away from.
Following Fire Spin is Fire Blast, which is Charizard's most powerful move in this moveset, maximizing on the bonus damage dealt by the Fire AoE. Flamethower should follow after.
Fire Fang has a quicker cooldown compared to the other moves, so it should be used to weave between rotations, maintaining damage uptime until Fire Spin can be used again.
Camerupt
|
Recommended Moves: ・Lava Plume ・Fire Spin ・Earth Power ・Focus Energy How to Get: ・Evolves from Numel, found in Wild Zone 8. Camerupt is the most recommended counter pokemon for Rogue Mega Victreebel, as you can get a Cameruptite before fighting it. Its Fire-type attacks are super effective against Grass-types, and its Ground-type moves are neutral effective against both Grass and Poison-types. |
Camerupt is the most convenient counter against Rogue Mega Victreebel due to its overall kit and type advantage. Camerupt's a Fire and Ground-type, which makes Victreebel's attacks not very effective against it.
Fire-type attacks are super effective against Grass-types, with Lava Plume or Fire Spin being a good option. Ground-type attacks are neutrally effective and can be used while other Fire-type attacks are on cooldown.

You can also obtain a Cameruptite to Mega Evolve your Camerupt before fighting the Rogue Mega Victreebel. The Cameruptite is a reward after completing Main Mission 12, A Rogue Mega Camerupt.
Rogue Mega Camerupt Strategy Guide
| Earth Power → Focus Energy → Lave Plume → Fire Spin → Earth Power |
You can start off with Earth Power to decrease Mega Victreebel's Sp. Def stat. Afterwards, use Focus Energy to increase your odds of landing a critical hit. Unleash the power of Lava Plume, then use Fire Spin afterwards to trap Mega Victreebel in a Fire AoE, dealing continuous damage for a short amount of time.
Emboar
|
Recommended Moves: ・Flame Wheel ・Heat Crash ・Power-Up Punch ・Dig How to Get: ・Evolves from Tepig Line, chosen as a starter. Emboar is a good counter to Victreebel with its Fire-type attacks that are very effective against Grass-type. The downside is that Fighting-type attacks are not effective against Poison-types, and Emboar's Speed is slower than Victreebel's. |
If you pick Tepig as your starter Pokemon, you can use it or either one of its evolutions, with Emboar as the best option, for a good counter against Rogue Mega Victreebel.
Emboar's Fire-Type attacks, such as Heat Crash, deal double damage against Victreebel. However, Fighting-type attacks are not effective against Victreebel, as it's also a Poison-type.
| Power-Up Punch → Flame Wheel → Heat Crash → Dig(Situational) → Flame Wheel |
Raise your attack with Power-Up Punch; even if it's a Fighting-type move, you still need to use it for the buff. Follow up with Flame Wheel and Heat Crash for a super effective Fire-type move combo. You can also use Dig to dodge between your attacks.

You can run around Rogue Mega Victreebel, preferably with enough distance between you and its main body, to dodge its Bullet Seed attack. It will use this attack more often when you are too far away.
If you get too close to Rogue Mega Victreebel, it will use its Vine Whip attack to push you away while dealing a lot of damage. Try to maintain a safe distance when moving to prevent it from using Vine Whip.
Once Rogue Mega Victreebel's HP reaches a certain point, it will charge up then spit out large puddles of poison around the battlefield. Stepping on a poison puddle will deal Poison-type attacks to your Pokemon.
Puddles will be located at random, so be careful where you step. The Poison puddles will disappear after a short while.

If your Pokemon gets Poisoned, you can use the Antidote to clear the status effect. Antidotes can be bought at any Pokemon Center.

The Rogue Victreebel Mega Battle is located at the Magenta District, northwest from the Quasartico Inc. Building. It unlocks during Main Mission 13, A Rogue Mega Victreebel.
You can fast travel to the Quasartico Inc. Building, then walk towards the northwest to get to the Rogue Mega Victreebel, which is in front of a pale yellow building.

After talking to Vinnie in Quasartico Inc. during Main MIssion 41: The One That Takes, you can rechallenge Rogue Mega Victreebel in a simulation. Unlike the original Rogue Mega Battle, you will be facing Mega Victreebel solo with no help from your allies.

You will get the Victreebelite Mega Stone after defeating the Rogue Mega Victreebel! The Victreebelite allows you to Mega Evolve your own Victreebel in your team.
