Stop the Runaway Whirlipede! is unlocked at the start of Mission 35: Reaching Rank A. You can start the side mission before you fight Emma at the Looker Bureau.

You can start the mission by speaking to Rouland who is standing just west of Wild Zone 9.

  1. Follow the Runaway Whirlipede
  2. Defeat the Whirlipede

Follow the Runaway Whirlipede
Head south from where you spoke to Rouland and interact with the Whirlipede to initiate a battle.

Defeat the Whirlipede

Defeat the Whirlipede

Rouland's Whirlipede is Level 59 and can use Rollout during battle. Psychic Type Pokemon such as Starmie and Metagross can easily knock out Whirlipede with STAB Psychic and Zen Headbutt respectively.

Alternatively, a fast special attacking Fire Type Pokemon, such as Pyroar or Delphox can also easily take down the Whirlipede with a Fire Blast. Just make sure you increase your Pokemon's level to at least Level 60.

Defeat Rouland's Whirlipede to complete the side mission after a short cutscene.
