Players can catch wild Pokemon by throwing Pokeballs at them in designated Wild Zones in Pokemon Legends: Z-A! Read on how to catch Pokemon, and make it easier by lowering their health and sneaking up on them.

Similar to Legends: Arceus, players can catch Pokemon in Legends: Z-A by zooming in with the ZL button to pull up the reticle. When you're locked onto a Pokemon, toss the Pokeball with the ZR button to initiate capture.
Once the Pokemon is in the ball, it will bounce around before confirming that you have successfully captured it. If a Pokemon escapes, players will have to repeat this process again.

Pokemon can react in different ways when you approach them. Some can charge at you, while others will run away. Sneak up on Pokemon and toss a Pokeball to try and catch them off guard.

Another way to safely engage wild Pokemon is by entering battle with them. When a Pokemon charges at you, or as you sneak up on a Pokemon, bring out your Pokemon to initiate combat.
Lowering a Pokemon's HP will increase its capture rate. Be sure to time your moves and avoid attacks accordingly.
Battle System: Will Battles Be Turn Based?

Unlike previous games, knocking out a Pokemon does not cause the battle to end. When knocked out, Pokemon will have stars circling above their head, indicating that they are stunned.
This is a temporary state that gives them a greatly increased capture rate. If players do not throw a Pokeball within the timeframe, the Pokemon will then despawn and the battle will end.

Trainers can sneak up on Pokemon by crouching and hiding behind objects and grass. This makes them more less likely to flee. Once the target Pokemon is within sight, use a Quick Ball which has a higher rate of success if the Pokemon has not seen the trainer yet.

Trainers can also choose to knock out the Pokemon first before it has a chance to attack. As mentioned above, this gives it a chance to enter a special state where trainers have a higher rate of catching it. This also prevents your own Pokemon from taking too much damage.

Different types of Poke Balls can be more effective during certain situations. An example would be using a Net Ball to catch Bug and Water Type Pokemon. Players can find these Poke Balls as overworld items around the map, or purchased from the Pokeball Emporium.
List of All Poke Balls

The Canari Plush is a special item that gives its holder increased effects in different aspects. The Blue Canari Plush specifically, can increase chances of successful catches slightly. Players can exchange their Colorful Screws at Racine Construction, located in the southeast area.

Similar to previous Pokemon games, trainers can use Status Effects to increase the chances of a successful catch. Note that trainers cannot inflict status effects once the Pokemon is in the special state when its HP is fully depleted.
