Pokemon Legends: Z-A introduces real-time battles which makes Status Effects or Status Conditions act differently from previous Pokemon games. Learn about each Status Condition or Effect, video examples of them and which items cure them!
List of Contents
| Status Condition | Effect |
|---|---|
| Paralysis | Pokemon cannot move as quickly |
| Poison and Toxic Poison | Deals damage over time. Toxic Poison deals increased damage over time. |
| Drowsy (Sleep) | Delays the release time of attacks/longer cooldowns |
| Confused | Causes irregular movement on the battlefield |
| Frozen | Stops the Pokemon from moving and attacking until thawed out |
| Burn | Deals damage over time and decreases the power of physical attacks |
| Without Paralysis | With Paralysis |
|---|---|
Paralysis causes the Pokemon to move slower on the battlefield making it more difficult for positioning and dodging.
This is different to previous Pokemon games when paralysis caused a Pokemon to sometimes not execute a move during their turn. In the video above, the Flabebe that is paralyzed moves slower.
| Poison | Toxic Poison |
|---|---|
Poisoned Pokemon take damage over time. Players can use this to their advantage by delaying the battle so that the opponent takes more damage.
Toxic Poison, as shown in the video above, deals comparatively more damage than regular Poison over time, inflicted by the move Toxic. It is indicated by the same Poisoned symbol on the Pokemon but instead, filled in with more purple.

Sleep inducing moves now cause the Drowsy Status Effect. When Pokemon are drowsy, the their moves have longer cooldowns or release time of their attacks are slower. The drowsy status can go away over time.
Pokemon in the confused state move irregularly on the battlefield so it becomes harder to position and execute a targeted move. However, through our testing, it does not drastically affect the Pokemon's ability to execute a move. The confused status also goes away with time.

Pokemon that are frozen cannot move or attack. They can thaw out after a short while.

Pokemon that are burned receive damage over time and have the power of their physical moves reduced.

Pokemon can have multiple status effects but only for confused Pokemon and another status effect. The image shows on the right, a sleep inducing move not having an effect on a burned Pokemon.
Drowsy (sleep), burn, paralysis, poison and the frozen status cannot stack on each other. The image on the right however, shows confusion stacking on top of drowsiness (sleep).
