Mega Slowbro is a Water/Psychic type pokemon, with both a wide range of weaknesses and resistances. It has five weaknesses, being the Electric, Grass, Bug, Ghost, and Dark typings. Moves of these type all deal twice the damage to Mega Slowbro.
Meanwhile, bringing in Pokemon wth the Water, Ice, Fire, Fighting, and Steel typing will be half as effective due to Mega Slowbro's resistances. Furthermore, Pokemon with the Fire or Fighting type, will be dealt twice the damage from Mega Slowbro's attacks.
Type Chart and Team Matchup Checker
Absol
|
Recommended Moves: ・Swords Dance ・Night Slash ・Slash ・Shadow Claw Where to Get: ・Joins your team after completing Main Mission 9: Chase That Mysterious Pokémon Summary: Absol's has a solid moveset beyond Level 30. Night Slash and Slash will be your main sources of damage, while Swords Dance can be used to sharply boost Attack before mega evolving and unleashing Plus Moves. Rounding out the moveset will be Shadow Claw, which can be learned from a TM to provide another source of super effective damage. |
Our recommended pick for this fight is Absol, as you obtain Absolite right before this quest is given. Absol is a physical attacker with a higher attack stat than normal due to having no evolutions.
It is a great Pokemon right off the bat, and has a great moveset that is complemented by its super effective matchup against Slowbro. Absol is also immune to Psychic type moves which against a rogue mega evolution, does not nullify damage but severely reduces it instead.
Absol Location, Evolution, and Stats
| Swords Dance → Shadow Claw → Night Slash → Slash → Shadow Claw |
As the battle begins, quickly activate Swords Dance to gain an attack boost. Your main move rotation will be between Shadow Claw, Slash, and Night Slash, before replenishing your Attack boost with Swords Dance whenever possible.
You will primarily want to cycle between Shadow Claw and Night Slash, as these moves deal super effective damage. However Slash is always good in a pinch, as it also benefits from a higher critical ratio.
Sharpedo
|
Recommended Moves: ・Crunch ・Night Slash ・Slash ・Leer/Focus Energy Where to Get: ・Evolve from Carvanha at Lvl. 30. Carvanha is found at Wild Zone 10. ・An Alpha Sharpedo can be found at Wild Zone 10. Summary: Sharpedo's natural Water and Dark-type is a good counter against Slowbro's Water and Psychic-type. Defensively, Dark-types are immune to Psychic-type attacks, and Water-types are not effective against their own. However, Dark-type moves are super effective against Psychic-types, giving Sharpedo the edge. |
Suppose you don't want to use Absol or Mega Absol against Rogue Mega Slowbro. In that case, Sharpedo is a good substitute, and its Mega Stone can be purchased in the Quasartico Inc. while progressing in Main Mission 10, The Secrets of Mega Evolution.
Type-wise, Sharpedo has the edge due to it being a Dark-type. Another good substitute for Sharpedo would be Sableye and can also be Mega Evolved.
Sharpedo Location, Evolution, and Stats
| Leer/Focus Energy → Crunch → Night Slash → Slash → Crunch |
With Sharpedo, you can choose to use either Leer or Focus Energy, depending if you want to lower Slowbro's Defense or increase your critical hit as your first move. Then, bombard it with Dark-type attacks afterward.
Manectric
|
Recommended Moves: ・Thunder Fang ・Spark ・Bite ・Leer Where to Get: ・Evolve from Electrike at Lvl. 30. Electrike is found at Wild Zone 5. ・An Alpha Manectric can be found at Wild Zone 9. Summary: Electric types like Manectric would be great alternates against Rogue Mega Slowbro as well. Additionally, Electric-type moves can cause Paralyzed status problem against opponents. |
Electric-type Pokemons like Manectric can be used against Rogue Mega Slowbro If you don't like using Dark-types. Manectric can use either Electric-type and Dark-type moves simultaneously.
Viable alternates if you don't have any Mega Stones for your other Pokemon, would be Ampharos, or Gogoat.
Manectric Location, Evolution, and Stats
| Leer → Thunder Fang → Bite → Spark → Thunder Fang |
Since all of Manectric attacks are Physical, you need to use Leer to lower Slowbro's Defense. Afterward, you can switch to yur other three moves simultaneously as they have similar cooldowns.
| Rogue Mega Slowbro Tips |

|
|
Mega Slowbro shoots out pulses of water, slowly moving in a straight, wide line. |
Mega Slowbro can track you while shooting out pulses. Send your Pokemon to attack Slowbro, and guide the pulses away from them.
You will have more time to dodge if you position yourself further back. This can be done for the entire fight as Mega Slowbro's moveset is all ranged attacks.
If your Pokemon gets confused after being hit with Water Pulse, switch to a different Pokemon to dispel the status effect. If your Pokemon stays confused, there is a chance it may hurt itself in its confusion.
Mega Slowbro charges, before unleashing a psychic blast in a straight line. |
Mega Slowbro gets locked into the Psybeam+ animation whenever it uses the move. Use this time to unleash Plus Moves on it.
When your Pokemon is attacking. Mega Slowbro will have to choose to attack you or the Pokemon. Position your Pokemon behind Mega Slowbro to direct its attacks away from it, and focus on dodging.
Mega Slowbro charges for a long time, and unleashes several tornados. These spawn around Mega Slowbro and make their way to the edge of the stadium. |
Mega Slowbro can send out several waves of water tornados in quick succession. Walk diagonally between these tornados to avoid them.
When this move is active, do not send your Pokemon to attack. This will make them run in a straight line to Mega Slowbro, causing them to take damage.
You may also retreat them for the time being, making you focus solely on yourself, and dodging the Water Tornados

Mega Slowbro has a high defense, so consider using Plus Moves to deal heavy damage.
Plus Moves enhance moves and can be used by any Pokemon, including Non-Mega Pokemon. However, keep in mind that using Plus Moves consumes the Mega Orb gauge, which may give you less chances to Mega Evolve.
At this phase, Mega Slowbro will become more aggressive and attack more frequently. Be sure to focus on dodging and positioning while minding your cooldown timers.
Once Mega Slowbro's HP bar hits red, it will begin winding up one final attack. This will be similar to the Water Tornados, this time producing several waves.

The Slowbro Mega Battle can be encountered at the Amylis Park in Bleu District when you unlock Main Mission 11: A Rogue Mega Slowbro. Rogue Mega Pokemon are indicated by a glowing pink aura surrounding the Pokemon.
Enter Amylis Park and walk towards the stone fence. Head to the water area and take the stairs down to meet up with Taunie.

After defeating the Rogue Mega Slowbro, you will receive the Slowbronite Mega Stone as a reward. The Slowbronite allows you to Mega Evolve your own Slowbro in your team.
