What are Effort Values (EVs)?

Effort Values, or EVs, are hidden values that your Pokemon gain after defeating another Pokemon. These values can go into any of your six stats, boosting how much your Pokemon can grow as they level up.

Effort Values influence how high your stats can go. This marks a significant difference between Pokemon leveled through Exp. Candies, and Pokemon leveled through training.

Effort Values Cap at 508

Pokemon have a hard limit for obtaining EVs, being capped at 508 EVs in total. Your Pokemon's individual stats cap out at 252, allowing players to max out two stats with 4 extra EVs to spare.

Each Pokemon you defeat offers certain EVs upon defeat. This allows players to specialize their Pokemon into certain stats by farming the same Pokemon over and over.

PLZA Ranked Battles

While EVs are good to have for the main story, the power level of the Pokemon you encounter during Main Missions should not pose a problem to a Pokemon without EVs.

However, EV trained Pokemon become a necessity in online and ranked play. Against other players, you should expect them to bring in Pokemon at peak performance, which need equally well trained Pokemon to stand a fighting chance.
