| Build Name | Strengths and Weaknesses |

Special Xerneas Build★★★★★ |
Strengths:
• Powerful long-range attacker. • If difficult to counter once you get a screen and Geomancy up. • Can function even without a Mega, you can give up your slot to another Pokemon like Chandelure. Weaknesses: • Okay movepool but pretty predictable. • Needs a Ground or Fire-type teammate to work in the Steel dominated meta. |
Physical Xerneas Build★★★★☆ |
Strengths:
• Amazing Physical movepool. • Losing Geomancy isn't as bad here due to its high wind-up time Weaknesses: • Your only STAB option is Play Rough. • Needs a Ground or Fire-type teammate to work in the Steel dominated meta. |

This build focuses on providing AoE crowd control and damage using Psychic and Moonblast from afar. Use Geomancy when you're a good distance away from enemies.
| Item | Effect / Location |
|---|---|
|
|
Effect: An item to be held by a Pokemon. It boosts the power of the holder's moves, but the holder also loses a small amount of HP upon landing an attack. Location(s): • Purchased at Racine Construction (₽ 4980) • Reward from Side Mission 85 |
The item chosen for Xerneas for this build is the Life Orb. This will allow Xerneas to go deal extra damage at the cost of your HP.
Life Orb: How to Get and How to Use
| Moonblast | Main damager against the overwhelming presence of Dragon-types in the current meta. |
|---|---|
| Psychic | An attacking move that will home onto enemies when cast. |
| Thunderbolt | An attacking move that will home onto enemies when cast. Great for dealing against Skarmory. |
| Geomancy | Used to further your damage, but do keep your eyes peeled when using it as its animation is pretty long. |
This set focuses on having Xerneas deal as much damage as possible. Geomancy is great to use but keep in mind the other players around you.
| Hyper Voice | Great AoE damage but not that great due to the high presence of Metagross. |
|---|---|
| Focus Blast | Gives you another option against Steel-types. |
A full 252 EVs are put into Xerneas' Special Attack and HP to make it hit as hard as possible and take a few hits. The extra 4 EVs are placed into Speed for quicker move cooldowns, but its negligible.
A Modest nature is preferred to help further increase Xerneas' Special Attack stat.
| Item: Gyaradosite | Thunderbolt 296-354 (146.5 - 175.2%) Guaranteed OHKO |
| Item: Assault Vest | Moonblast 211-250 (90.5 - 107.2%) 43.8% chance to OHKO |
| Item: Metagrossite | Heavy Slam 122-146 (60.6 - 72.6%) Guaranteed 2HKO |

| Summary | |||||||||
|

This build focuses on having Xerneas be a physical Fairy-type attacker, a niche not a lot of Pokemon in the Z-A Dex can fulfill. Due not having a Mega Evolution, you have the freedom to hold other items.
|
|
|
|
Effect: An item to be held by a Pokemon. It is a well-worn belt that slightly boosts the power of the holder's supereffective moves. Location(s): • Purchased at Racine Construction (₽ 4980) • Reward from Side Mission 117 |
The item chosen for Xerneas for this build is the Life Orb. This will allow Xerneas to go deal 30% more damage at the cost of your HP.
Alternatively, you can also have it hold the Expert Belt for a 20% boost to any Super Effective move.
Life Orb: How to Get and How to Use
| Horn Leech | Great sustain move especially if you see a Mega Gyarados running amok. |
|---|---|
| Night Slash | Used for the occasional Ghost and Psychic types. |
| Close Combat | Used to hit pesky Steel-types like Excadrill and Aggron. |
| Play Rough | Your only STAB option. Cannot be replaced with other moves. |
This set focuses on having Xerneas deal as much damage as possible. Horn Leech can be used to top up your HP due to Life Orb's drain.
Play Rough is your only option for a STAB Fairy move, so you don't have much options on that end.
| Zen Headbutt | Great option but Poison isn't that popular once you get to the higher ranks. |
|---|---|
| Megahorn | If you want to slot in anything that's weak to Psychic or Grass, good option to carry. |
| Rock Slide | Great to slot-in due to the amount of Skarmory, Charizard, and Talonflame rogue picks. |
A full 252 EVs are put into Xerneas's Attack and HP to make it hit as hard and tank as much damage as possible. The extra 4 EVs are placed into Speed for quicker move cooldowns, but its negligible.
An Adamant nature is preferred to help further increase Xerneas's Attack stat.
| Item: Gyaradosite | Horn Leech 117-138 (57.9 - 68.3%) (29.3 - 34.3% recovered) Guaranteed 2HKO |
| Play Rough 276-328 (136.6 - 162.3%) Guaranteed OHKO |
|
| Item: Metagrossite | Heavy Slam 122-146 (60.6 - 72.6%) Guaranteed 2HKO |
With the combination of a Life Orb and its high base Attack stats, it would be difficult for a Pokemon to survive a few hits from Xerneas unless it resists it.
Use Pokemon that Xerneas can cover for and retaliate with its powerful moves.
| Offensive Lead | Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
|---|---|---|
Garchomp
|
Mega Metagross
|
Xerneas
|
These three Pokemon are all powerful attackers and can cover for a wide variety of enemies. Switch in and out Pokemon to gain a favourable matchup while also looking to punish your opponent when you have a bad switch in.
| Defensive Lead | Special Sweeper | Physical Sweeper |
|---|---|---|
Mega Skarmory
|
Glaceon
|
Xerneas
|
This team focuses on learning your opponents' strategies while you set up hazards and evade attacks with Skarmory's Fly. You the switch in to either Glaceon or Xerneas to sweep opponents with Blizzard or Earthquake respectively.
