Trial of Grass

Recommended Meganium Build

Best Build for Trial of Grass
Meganium ImageMeganium
Level 100
Item: Pokemon Legends: Z-A - Leftovers ImageLeftovers
Light Screen
Leech Seed
Hyper Beam
Earth Power

You will only be allowed one Meganium in your team when taking on this trial against a team of Fire types. Since Meganium is still weak to Fire when it Mega Evolves, having it hold its Mega Stone may not be too helpful. The best item to equip onto it is the Leftovers to help it regain health, and combined with Leech Seed, it should be able to recover enough HP to take multiple hits.

All of Arcannes's Fire-type Pokemon will use Blast Burn, a special attack, so Light Screen can be very helpful. Hyper Beam and Earth Power are your main offensive moves, with Earth Power being super-effective against Blaziken and Delphox.

If you want to further optimize your build, it's recommended to give Meganium a Modest Mint if it does not have a Modest Nature and Hyper Train it in all stats other than Attack. You can also EV train your Pokemon to max out its Sp. Atk and HP to ensure you can take hits while also being able to knock out opposing Pokemon quickly. The remaining EVs can be added to Speed.

Immediately once the battle starts, use Light Screen, then set up Leech Seed. Arcanna will bring out Charizard first, who will use Blast Burn. Most of Charizard's other moves are also special attacks, so try to keep your Light Screen up. Heal up using a medicine item, then attack Charizard using Hyper Beam until it's defeated.

Blaziken will be sent out next, who will also use Blast Burn. Blaziken will mainly use physical moves afterward, but it can be quickly knocked out with Earth Power if you've maxed out your Sp. Atk.

Delphox is Arcannes's final Fire-type Pokemon and has the highest Sp. Atk and Sp. Def stats of the three. Make sure you have your Light Screen set up for the rest of the battle, and heal with items whenever your HP gets low. Use Leech Seed to supplement your health regeneration, and alternate using Earth Power and Hyper Beam until Delphox is defeated.

Recommended Emboar Build

Emboar ImageEmboar

Item: Pokemon Legends: Z-A - Emboarite ImageEmboarite
Protect
Thunder Punch
Drain Punch
Dig

For the Trial of Fire, you can have only one Emboar in your party and no other Pokemon. It is recommended to have Emboar hold the Emboarite Mega Stone. Mega Evolving gives you a stat boost that can help with your defenses and offenses.

Thunder Punch and Drain Punch are the recommended offensive moves. Drain Punch is a new TM that you can purchase from the TM salesman near Wild Zone 17 for 420 Mega Shards. This move is useful for keeping Emboar alive if you get hit by your opponent, but it's recommended to have Protect and Dig to avoid enemy attacks as much as possible.

It is recommended to have your Emboar be Hyper Trained for all stats (though Sp. Atk is unnecessary) and to have its HP and Attack EVs maxed out. Alternatively, you can max out its Speed instead of HP if you're confident in avoiding attacks. The recommended nature for Emboar is Adamant, which increases Attack and decreases Sp. Atk.

Defeat Water-Type Pokemon

Trial of Fire Opponents
Blastoise ImageBlastoise

Swampert ImageSwampert

Greninja ImageGreninja
Lv. 99

The battle starts with Blastoise using Hydro Cannon, which takes a while to charge. Use Protect at the right moment to avoid taking damage. If you get hit, make sure to use a medicine item, then hit back with Thunder Punch. Use Drain Punch while Thunder Punch cools down or if you need more healing.

Once Blastoise is defeated, Swampert will come out. This Pokemon is immune to Electric-type attacks, so Drain Punch will be your best move against it. Mega Evolve to deal with this bulky Pokemon more easily. Use Protect or Dig to avoid its attacks in between using Drain Punch.

The final opponent is Greninja. Although strong offensively, it's a bit frail, and both of your offensive moves are super-effective against it. Using Drain Punch or Thunder Punch should be enough to knock it out in one hit, especially if you're still Mega Evolved.

Item: Pokemon Legends: Z-A - Feraligite ImageFeraligite
Protect
Ice Fang
Dragon Claw
Swords Dance

In the Trial of Water, you are only allowed one single Feraligatr in your party. This may be the easiest trial to complete, since Feraligatr loses its weakness to Grass once it Mega Evolves.

All of Arcannes's Grass-type Pokemon are weak to Ice-type moves, so Ice Fang is recommended to be your main damage-dealing move. Dragon Claw can be used while Ice Fang cools down, or you can boost your damage output further by setting up a Swords Dance.

It's recommended to have your Feraligatr be Hyper Trained for all stats, but it's alright not to touch Sp. Atk. Feraligatr is best used more offensively in this battle, so it benefits more from maxing out its Attack and Speed stats, and the remaining EVs invested in Sp. Def. However, Feraligatr has a good shot of getting through this battle without any EV training. Adamant is the recommended nature for Feraligatr.

Venusaur will be the first Pokemon you'll face in this trial. Use Protect when it's almost done charging its Frenzy Plant attack. When you are able to, Mega Evolve, and use Swords Dance. Then, use Ice Fang to deal super-effective damage to Venusaur.

While Ice Fang cools down, use Dragon Claw against your opponent. Set up Swords Dance again once the effect fades. Repeat this process of using Swords Dance, Ice Fang, and Dragon Claw until all three opposing Pokemon have been defeated.

Try your best to use Protect whenever the opponent tries to use Frenzy Plant. If you take too much damage, don't hesitate to use a Max Potion to heal back up.

The Ultimate Techniques Trial Tips

  1. Bring a Lot of Healing Items
  2. Hyper Train Your Pokemon
  3. EV Train Your Pokemon
  4. Use Only Lv. 100 Pokemon

Bring a Lot of Healing Items

Item Description
Max Potion Icon
Max Potion
A spray-type medicine for treating wounds. It can be used to fully restore the max HP of a Pokemon.
Full Restore Icon
Full Restore
A medicine that can be used to fully restore the max HP of a Pokemon and cure any status it may have.

It's recommended to bring a lot of medicines, particularly Max Potions or Full Restores, when taking on the Ultimate Techniques trials. Since opposing Pokemon will use super-effective moves against you, you can expect to take a lot of damage. Don't hesitate to heal your Pokemon back up to full whenever it takes damage, since your Pokemon may not be able to tank too many hits.

You will mostly just need Max Potions, which are slightly cheaper than Full Restores, but your Pokemon do have a small chance to be afflicted with a burn status condition from Fire-type moves during the Trial of Grass. Having Full Restores as well can be handy in that case.

List of Medicines

Hyper Train Your Pokemon

The Ultimate Techniques trials all put you at a disadvantage in terms of typing and Pokemon count, and since the opposing Pokemon are all level 99, you can't even over-level to make up for it.

To make sure your Pokemon can reach its full potential, make sure they're Hyper Trained in all stats. You need Bottle Caps or Gold Bottle Caps in order to Hyper Train Pokemon. If you use regular Bottle Caps, you can skip Hyper Training the offensive stat they won't use.

You can Hyper Train any stat that isn't already marked as Best by talking to an NPC at the Justice Dojo. You can check which stats can be Hyper Trained by pressing the Right Stick on your controller while at a Pokemon's stats summary screen to use the Judge function.

Hyper Training Guide: How to Increase IVs

EV Train Your Pokemon

EV training your Pokemon is optional but highly recommended to make this side mission easier. If you've added your Pokemon before into your party, you may want to reset its EVs first by giving 5 Mega Shards to Lady Clear at the Rust Syndicate Office lobby's front desk or by using EV reducing Berries.

You can then build up their EVs by using Vitamins, Feathers, or by defeating Pokemon that give the specific EVs you're looking for. To check if you've maxed out a stat, you can use the Right Stick to scroll down when viewing your Pokemon's stats.

EV Training Guide

Use Only Lv. 100 Pokemon

Because of your disadvantages in this battle, you must have your Pokemon at level 100 if you want to win. The fastest way to level up your Pokemon is to use Exp. Candies, which you may obtain a lot of from hyperspace distortions.
