Rogue Mega Altaria is a Dragon and Fairy-type Pokemon, which makes it weak to Poison, Steel, Ice, and Fairy-types. However, Fighting, Bug, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, and Dark-type are not effective against it. It is also completely immune to Dragon-type attacks.
Excadrill
|
Recommended Moves: ・ Iron Head ・ Metal Claw ・ Swords Dance ・ Leer How to Get: ・Evolve from Drilbur, which is found at Wild Zone 8 and Wild Zone 14. An Alpha Excadrill can also be at Wild Zone 14. Summary: Excadrill's Steel-type is generally a great defense advantage against Dragon and Fairy types. Additionally, Steel-type attacks are super effective against Rogue Mega Altaria. |
Excadrill is the best counter Pokemon against Rogue Mega Altaria, due to the high base Attack of Excadrill and Mega Excadrill. Defensively, Rogue Mega Altaria has little to no damage against a Steel-type. Offensively, it can't run away from the Physical Steel-type attacks.
Excadrill Location, Evolution, and Stats

You can buy a Excadrite at Quasartico Inc. for 360 Mega Shards. The Excadrite can be used to Mega Evolve the Excadrill in your party.
How to Get Excadrite Mega Stone
| Swords Dance → Leer → Iron Head → Metal Claw → Leer/Swords Dance |
Increase some of your stats first for maximum damage with Leer and Swords Dance. At this point, Rogue Mega Altaria has low Defense, and you just increased Excadrill's already very high Attack. Follow it up with Iron Head and Metal Claw.
Gardevoir
|
Recommended Moves: ・ Dazzling Gleam ・ Draining Kiss ・ Calm Mind ・ Psychic How to Get: ・Evolve from Ralts evolution line, which is found at Vert Sector 4. An Alpha Ralts can also be found at the same location during the Night. Summary: Gardevoir is a good counter as it negates Rogue Mega Altaria's Dragon-type attacks. Meanwhile, Gardevoir's Fairy-type attacks are super effective against Dragon types. |
With Gardevoir's Fairy-type, it completely makes Rogue Mega Altaria's Dragon-type attacks completely useless. This makes its Fairy-type attacks the only worry.
Offensively, Gardevoir's Fairy-type attacks are fatal to Rogue Mega Altaria, giving the utmost advantage in this type matchup.
Gardevoir Location, Evolution, and Stats

As an early purchase bonus for Pokemon Legends: ZA, you can get a free Ralts and Gardevoirite by selecting 'Mystery Gifts' in Link Play then connecting to the internet.
This can only be claimed until February 28, 2026.
How to Get Gardevoirite Mega Stone
| Calm Mind → Dazzling Gleam → Psychic → Draining Kiss → Calm Mind |
Raise your Sp. Atk. and Sp. Def. with Calm Mind first, then follow it up with Dazzling Gleam for the optimal Fairy-type damage. Next, you can follow it up with either Psychic or Draining Kiss if you want more damage or some sustainability.
Glalie
|
Recommended Moves: ・ Leer ・ Ice Beam ・ Ice Fang ・ Fake Tears How to Get: ・Evolve from Snorunt, which is found at Wild Zone 12. Summary: Ice types, like Glalie, are the Dragon types' biggest fear. When Mega Evolved, Mega Glalie has one of the highest base Attack and Sp. Atk., making any of its Ice-type attacks will surely freeze anyone down to the bone. |
A normal Glalie has a balanced stat line, which makes it great for offense or defense. But, when Mega Evolved, it has high base Attack and Sp. Atk. are bone chilling. Its Ice-type attacks are a great counter against Dragon types, like Rogue mega Altaria.
Sharpedo Location, Evolution, and Stats

You can buy a Glalitite at Quasartico Inc. for 240 Mega Shards. The Glalitite can be used to Mega Evolve the Glalie in your party.
How to Get Glalitite Mega Stone
| Leer → Fake Tears → Ice Beam → Ice Fang → Leer/Fake Tears |
Glalie's move rotation is simple. First, you need to lower Rogue Mega Altaria's Defense and Sp. Defense with Leer and Fake Tears, respectively. Then, follow up with Ice Beam and Ice Fang.

When Rogue Mega Altaria uses Dragon Pulse, it shoots multiple huge rings from its beak. The rings are easily avoidable just by running away or rolling over.
Its Moonblast Orb might be big, deal a ton of damage, and is a guided missile to the chosen target, but it's very slow in terms of speed. The best way to dodge it is to run around the battlefield until it's gone.
Rogue Mega Altaria's charge mode makes it summon a flurry of hurricanes that will throw right at you. When the hurricnanes comes toward its target, it follows a straight line to the target. This means you just need to move out of the huricane's way and roll over to the side.
Rogue Mega Altaria seldom uses Brave Bird, but when it does, it goes to the far side of the battlefield, charges for a little bit, and strikes like a bullet train. Its attacks follow a straight line towards its chosen target.
So, you need to roll over to the side quickly if you see Altaria charging from the far side of the battle area.
When its enraged, it quickly teleports to an area it wants to go to. It teleports so fast, it happens in a blink of an eye.

The Rogue Mega Altaria Battle is located at the Magenta District, on the rooftop of Magenta Sector 4. It unlocks during Main Mission 28, A Rogue Mega Altaria.
Fast travel to Wild Zone 7, walk towards the building in the northwest. Take the holovator at the west end of the building to get to the rooftop. Jump from the rooftop, use Roto-Glide immediately, and reach the other rooftop of the building across.
Go to Wild Zone 7 first. Walk towards the curved building northwest of the Wild Zone. Walk up the stairs and find the holovator near the west end of the building. Then, take the holovator to the rooftop.
Once at the rooftop, run towards the edge of it, where Rogue Mega Altaria is, and immediately use Roto-Glide while pressing the forward button.
