Mega Tyranitar is a Rock/Dark type Pokemon, which makes it weak against Fighting, Water, Grass, Ground, Bug, Steel, and Fairy Pokemon. Because of its dual-type, Tyranitar takes quadruple damage from Fighting-type moves.

On the flip side, Tyranitar is resistant against Normal, Fire, Poison, Flying, Ghost, Dark, and Psychic Pokemon, so avoiding putting those types in your team.

Lucario

Lucario ImageLucario
Pokemon Fighting Type Icon / Pokemon Steel Type Icon
Moves:
Bulk Up
Power-Up Punch
Focus Blast
Iron Tail
Where to Get:
・Evolves from Riolu, found on the roof in Rogue Sector 4
Lucario's moveset provides a balance of offensive and defensive moves. You will want to balance between buffing yourself through moves like Bulk Up, and hitting your enemies with debuffs, while weaving your strongest Fighting and Steel moves in between.

Since Lucario is both a Fighting and a Steel-type Pokemon, it holds two type advantages over Mega Tyranitar. If you teach Lucario more Fighting-type moves through TMs, you can take advantage of the quadruple damage bonus.

In addition to being capable of wielding Fighting-type moves, Lucario's status as a Steel-type Pokemon also makes it resistant against Rock-type moves, which makes it a choice counter against Mega Tyranitar.

Get Lucarionite From Quasartico Inc.

Lucarionite can be bought at Quasartico Inc. for 240 Mega Shards. It can be used to mega evolve Lucario.

How to Get Lucarionite Mega Stone

Recommended Move Rotation

Bulk Up → Focus Blast → Power-Up Punch → Iron Tail

Use Bulk Up to temporarily increase Lucario's Attack and Defense stats. While Bulk Up is in effect, use Focus Blast to deal heavy damage against Mega Tyranitar. Focus Blast also has the effect of lowering its target's Sp. Def.

Use Power-Up Punch to buff Lucario's Attack, then strike another powerful blow with Iron Tail.

Mawile

Moves:
Draining Kiss
Power-Up Punch
Iron Head
Dynamic Punch
How to Get:
・Found in Wild Zone 9
Alpha Mawile found on the roof in Wild Zone 17
Mawile is able to learn Steel, Fairy, and Fighting-type moves, which are all effective against Mega Tyranitar. Debuff your enemies using moves like Power-Up Punch, then attack with your strongest moves.

Mawile is classified as a Steel/Fairy Pokemon, but it is also capable of learning Fighting-type moves through both evolution and TMs. Being able to utilize three-type advantages, this makes Mawile a very dynamic counter against Mega Tyranitar.

Mawile is also resistant against Rock-type moves on account of being a Steel-type Pokemon.

Recommended Move Rotation

Power-Up Punch → Dynamic Punch → Draining Kiss → Iron Head

Power-Up Punch is used to increase Mawile's Attack. This is then followed up by Dynamic Punch, which is the strongest Fighting-type move in the set. Draining Kiss can be used afterwards to either heal up or deal extra damage. Afterwards, finish off strong with Iron Head.

How to Beat Rogue Mega Tyranitar

Rogue Mega Tyranitar Battle Tips

Sidestep When Tyranitar Yells

Tyranitar yells at the trainer. Shortly after, rocks will fall above the space where the trainer is standing.

When you see Mega Tyranitar yell at the direction of the trainer, sidestep or dodge to the side to avoid a Rock Slide.

Walk Side to Side During Rock Tomb

Tyranitar charges up then summons dust storms along the borders. It will then summon a rows of spiked rocks that will target the trainer.

To dodge Tyranitar's Rock Tomb, and to avoid trapping yourself, you only need to walk side to side during the attack.

Step to the side to dodge the first row of spikes. As the attack ends, return to the same spot where the spikes once were. Making only these two movements will prevent you from limiting the battlefield.

Withdraw Your Pokemon During Rock Tomb

When Tyranitar is enraged, its Rock Tomb attack summons three rows of spiked rocks instead of one.

At half HP, Tyranitar will get enraged, and its Rock Tomb attack will change. It will summon three rows of spiked rocks instead of only one row, making it difficult to dodge.

You can retreat your Pokemon here and try to go between the crevices of the three rows of spiked rocks. The three rows form into a sort of W-shape pattern. Look for the gap in between the rows, and stay there.

Tank Damage When It Has Sandstorm Armor

During enraged phase, Tyranitar will gain a sandstorm armor when it uses Sand Tomb.

Rogue Mega Tyranitar will gain sandstorm armor when it uses Sand Tomb during the enraged phase. If you get too close or attack Tyranitar with physical attacks, you or your Pokemon will get damaged.

During this time, you can use special or long-range attacks, such as Hydro Pump, Leaf Storm, or Flash Cannon, that do not require the Pokemon to go near Tyranitar. You can also use items to recover your Pokemon's HP if they do get near Tyranitar.

How to Use Items in Battle

Run Far Away From Earthquake

Tyranitar will go to one side of the battlefield and use earthquake, which affects a very wide area of the battlefield.

When Rogue Mega Tyranitar uses earthquake, it positions itself on one side of the battle area and uses the move, affecting a very wide circular AoE around it.

The only way to dodge this attack is to retreat your Pokemon immediately and run directly to the other side of the battle area.
