How to Use Items in Battle Top Banner

Using items in battle can be a big help especially against tough opponents in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Learn how to use items in battle and what the cooldown of this function is.

Stop Holding Down ZL and Press X

Players need to navigate to the X menu to access the items in the satchel (bag). To do this, players need to stop targetting the opponent by letting go of ZL, otherwise your Pokemon will use their move. After navigating to the menu, open up the satchel and select the item you want to use.

Cannot Use Items While Opponents are Switching Out

When opponents are switching out their Pokemon, whether they are healthy or defeated, trainers cannot access the X menu to use items. Players have to wait for the next Pokemon to be on the battlefield.

Cooldown to Use Items
The cooldown to use items in battle is shown at the bottom of the screen. This cooldown is approximately 10 seconds.

Item Cooldown Continues When Switching Out Your Pokemon

Item Cooldown Will Continue When Switching Out Pokemon
When players use an item then switch out their Pokemon in battle, the cooldown will not stop.

Item Cooldown is Reset when Opponent is Defeated

The cooldown to use items is reset after opponents are defeated. Trainers can immediately use items again for the next opponent
