Absol is a Dark-type Pokemon, which immediately makes it weak to Fairy, Fighting, and Bug Pokemon. However, Absol has a resistance against Psychic, Ghost, and other Dark Pokemon, so moves with these types will be less effective.

Lucario
|
Moves: ・Aura Sphere ・Rock Smash ・Bullet Punch ・Protect Where to Get: ・Borrowed from AZ for battling Rogue Mega Absol ・Evolves from Riolu, found on the roof in Rogue Sector 4 Lucario's moveset provides a balance of offensive and defensive moves. Aura Sphere provides a ranged Fighting-type attack that can hit Absol from the distance. Meanwhile, Rock Smash can be used to lower Absol's Defense and deal huge damage. Protect reduces the damage that Lucario takes, saving you from potential critical hits. |
For this battle, you will only be allowed to use Lucario who is temporarily lended to you by AZ. Lucario is a Fighting-type Pokemon, which makes it the ideal counter against Absol.
Because of the type advantage, Fighting-type moves deal double damage. Lucario also has two Fighting-type moves—Rock Smash and Aura Sphere—which you can alternate between cooldowns. This allows you to deal continuous damage against Absol.
| Rock Smash → Bullet Punch → Protect (if needed) → Aura Sphere → Rock Smash |
Start off with Rock Smash to lower Absol's Defenses. Follow this move up with Bullet Punch to move in close and take advantage of the defense drop. If you overextend, use Protect to prevent critical damage. Finally, retreat to a good distance and use Aura Sphere.
Using this rotation, you can maintain damage without losing any time from Move cooldown.

| Absol charges up then unleashes a red circular AoE. |
When you see Absol start to charge up energy, get as far away as possible. After a short while, Absol will unleash an AoE that can deal continuous damage towards any Pokemon caught within its red circle, and even has a chance of making them flinch.
During this time, you should avoid commanding your Lucario to attack. When you run away, Lucario will automatically follow you. However, if you select a command, Lucario will switch to targetting Absol, and there is a chance that it could be hit by the AoE.

Attacking Absol will cause Mega orbs to scatter around the battle field. Collect them to charge up your Mega Ring so that you can Mega Evolve Lucario.
| At 50% HP, Absol charges up quicker and unleashes a larger red circular AoE. |
Once Absol is at half health, it will charge up its AoE again. Not only is the charge time shorter, the AoE range will also increase. With such a short reaction window, you may need to dodge out of the way by pressing Y!

Since Aura Sphere is a long-ranged attack, you can use it to attack Absol once you are out of its AoE range.
When its HP is severely low, Absol will do its largest AoE attack, covering almost the entire field. It is important to be aware of the space between you and the border of the battlefield to avoid trapping yourself against a wall.

The Absol Mega Battle can be encountered at the Jaune District when you unlock Main Mission 9: Chase That Mysterious Pokemon. Rogue Mega Pokemon are indicated by a glowing pink aura surrounding the Pokemon.
During this mission, you will need to follow Zygarde into the Jaune District. It will lead you to the location of the Rogue Mega Absol.

After you complete the mission, Absol will be added to your team. This is a guaranteed catch, and you won't even need to spend any Poke Balls to catch it.
Keep in mind that Absol is the only Rogue Mega Pokemon that you get to keep. In other Rogue Mega Battles, you will not be given the option to catch the Rogue Pokemon.
Absol Location, Evolution, and Stats

After defeating the Rogue Mega Absol, you will receive the Absolite Mega Stone as a reward. The Absolite allows you to Mega Evolve your own Absol in your team.
