You can catch all available starter Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Read on to learn how to obtain all starter Pokemon in the game, along with the starter Pokemon from the Kanto and Kalos Regions.

As soon as you exit the station at the start of the game, you will get to immediately choose their starter at the beginning of the game with a choice between Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. Players can only choose one starter, much like previous games.

Once you finish the main story missions, you will unlock Wild Zone 20. You can find all three starter Pokemon roaming this wild zone alongside the Kanto starters, allowing you to complete your collection!
Wild Zone 20 Pokemon and How to Unlock

Players who want to obtain all starters immediately can do this method to start the game with all three.
Players will need the following to do this method:

| 1 | Progress the game on both devices until you meet Professor Mable and finish Main Mission 3. |
| 2 | On your main device, start catching Pokemon to trade. Any Pokemon will do. |
| 3 | Open up Link Play, select Link Trade, and choose Nearby Players. Enter a Link Code to create the trading lobby. |
| 4 | On the second device, enter the lobby through the custom code. |
| 5 | Trade the fodder Pokemon on your main device for the starter on the second device. |
| 6 | Reset the game on the second device, empty your save, and repeat as many times as you like. |
How to Unlock Trading and Link Play
Solo players can have a hard time finding a reliable partner to trade with. Check out our official trading board to post or look for trade requests!

Players can pick from either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle in Side Mission 22: A Call from Mable. This becomes available to the player after you defeat Rintaro in Main Mission 8 and heal your team at a Pokemon Center.

Which Kanto Starter Should You Pick?

Players can pick up the rest of the Kanto Starters in Wild Zone 20, after completing the main story. These can be found alongside Tepig, Chikorita, and Totodile in this post-game section.

To obtain Chespin, players will have to talk to Axi in Academie Etoile and accept the Side Mission. You will have to defeat Chespin 3 times in order to complete the mission.

Fennekin can be obtained by accepting Branche's request in the Magenta District. Players will have to enter the sewer and check the Revitalized Twigs. Returning it to Branche will reward you with Fennekin.

You can obtain Froakie by speaking to Surv in Jaune Sector 8. You will have to complete three platforming sections in different parts of Lumiose City to obtain Froakie as a reward.

Players can catch all three Kalos Starters in Wild Zones 16-18. One starter is assigned to each wild zone, which players need to unlock by progressing the main story.
This is fairly far into the game, requiring players to complete main Mission 24, and get promoted to Rank C to unlock Wild Zones 16 and 17, before completing Main Mission 30, achieving Rank B and unlocking Wild Zone 18 and 19.
