Alpha Pokemon may appear in Pokemon Legends: Z-A and may function similar to how they were first introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus as special field encounters that are aggressive.

While the game only takes place within Lumiose City, the seemingly larger scale of the city featured in the reveal trailer may mean that it's possible to encounter Alpha Pokemon within the city!

It's also possible that Alpha Pokemon may have connections to Mega Evolution which was teased at the end of the reveal trailer.

While the battle mechanic often only changes the stats and Abilities of the Pokemon, it also causes some Pokemon to grow larger such as Mega Gyarados being both larger and longer than regular Gyarados.

What are Alpha Pokemon?

Larger and More Aggressive Pokemon

Alpha Pokemon were first introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with many field Pokemon having a chance to spawn as an Alpha. These Pokemon are larger and more aggressive, but otherwise have the same stats and Abilities are regular Pokemon.

It's possible to transfer Alpha Pokemon to more recent games such as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, where they will become the largest size possible for that Pokemon and receive the Alpha Mark indicating that they were a former Alpha Pokemon.
