Mega Banette is solely a Ghost-type Pokemon. The only types effective against it would be Dark-types and other Ghost-types, which limits your options since other Ghost-types will be weak against Banette. This leaves you with using only Dark-type Pokemon for type advantages.
Mega Banette is resistant to Bug, Poison, Fighting, and Normal-types, so avoid including these types in your team.
Absol
|
Moves: ・ Shadow Claw ・ Night Slash ・ Ice Beam ・ Swords Dance Where to Get: ・After defeating Rogue Mega Absol in Main Mission 9 Absol has a solid moveset beyond Level 30 and can wield both Dark and Ghost-type moves, which are Mega Banette's main weaknesses. Shadow Claw will be used to lower Banette's Sp. Def, while Swords Dance will boost Absol's own Attack. Night Slash and Ice Beam will serve as its main damage dealing moves. |
Absol's learnset includes both Dark and Ghost type moves, which gives it a stronger advantage against Banette. Also, since Absol is solely a Dark-type Pokemon, it can resist Banette's Ghost-type attacks. This makes it the most optimal counter Pokemon against Rogue Mega Banette.
| Swords Dance → Shadow Claw → Night Slash → Ice Beam → Shadow Claw |
Use Swords Dance to sharply increase Absol's Attack, then follow it up with Shadow Claw. Shadow Claw not only deals damage, but it also lowers Mega Banette's Sp. Def. Use Night Slash next to unleash a strong Dark-type attack, then weave between rotations with Ice Beam.
Although it is an Ice-type move, Ice Beam is a powerful long-ranged move, which allows you to attack Banette from a distance. This gives you the opportunity to make more strategic movements during battle. Ice Beam can be obtained through a TM you can find in Wild Zone 12.
Sharpedo
|
Moves: ・ Night Slash ・ Bite ・ Crunch ・ Focus Energy Where to Get: ・Evolve from Carvanha at Lvl. 30. Carvanha is found at Wild Zone 10. ・An Alpha Sharpedo can be found at Wild Zone 10. Sharpedo's high Attack stats encourages you to have a more aggressive playstyle. Combined with its capability to use Dark-type moves, that makes Sharpedo a good secondary counter to Mega Banette. |
Sharpedo is a strong offensive Pokemon with a high base Atk stat, which makes it a good counter to Pokemon with heavier builds. This compliments its capability to use Dark-type Moves, making it a good counter to Mega Banette.

Sharpedonite, which is used to Mega Evolve Sharpedo, can be bought from Quasartico Inc. for 180 Mega Shards. Mega Shards can be collected by destroying clusters around Lumiose City.
| Focus Energy → Crunch → Night Slash → Bite → Focus Energy |
Start off with Focus Energy to increase Sharpedo's chances of landing a critical hit. Afterwards, use Sharpedo's strongest Dark-type attack, which would be Crunch. Use Night Slash after Crunch, then use Bite to maintain damage while your other moves are in cooldown.

|
| Banette makes several copies of itself in the battlefield. The number of clones will increase according to how low Banette's HP is. |
Mega Banette has the ability to multiply itself while in battle. To spot the main body, look for the Banette with no HP bar above its head. Only clones will have a small HP bar above their head.
| The second part to Banette's clone attack. Banette charges up, and the clones will slice at the trainer 3 times. |
When you see Banette charging up, start running in a circle. When the clones show up, roll away by pressing Y, narrowly dodging its slash attack.

If your Pokemon gets hit by Banette's Confuse Ray, switch it out with another Pokemon to dispel the Confused status effect.

The Banette Mega Battle can be encountered at the Jaune District when you unlock Main Mission 18: A Rogue Mega Banette. Rogue Mega Pokemon are indicated by a glowing pink aura surrounding the Pokemon.
Teleport to the Pokemon Center by North Boulevard. Afterwards, head west through Jaune Street where you will find Naveen nearby.

After defeating the Rogue Mega Banette, you will receive the Banettite Mega Stone as a reward. The Banettite allows you to Mega Evolve your own Banette in your team.
