How to Unlock Trevenant, the Haunted Elder Tree!
After Returning from Lysandre Labs during Main Mission 35
Trevenant, the Haunted Elder Tree! is unlocked during Mission 35: Reaching Rank A, right after exploring Lysandre Labs.
Complete Carvanha, Menace of the Deep!
Before you can unlock this side mission, you must first complete Side Mission 55: Carvanha, Menace of the Deep!, which is the first side quest from the director. If you haven't done this yet, the director should be at the Saison Canal.
After clearing this mission, wait for an in-game day to pass or rest at a bench or your bed. Trevenant, the Haunted Elder Tree! should become available then as long as you're also past the Main Mission requirement.

You may accept this mission by speaking with the Director who is standing just outside the southern entrance of Wild Zone 4, accompanied by two other people.

Catch an Alpha Trevenant in Wild Zone 13
There's an Alpha Trevenant that has a fixed spawn in the northern section of Wild Zone 13, and only appears at night.
Take note that you don't need an Alpha Trevenant to complete this quest. The Alpha Trevenant in Wild Zone 13 is just more convenient to catch if you don't want to trade with another player to evolve a Phantump!
Wild Zone 13 Pokemon and How to Unlock
Evolve Phantump by Trading
Alternatively, you can trade your Phantump to another player to evolve it into Trevenant, then have them trade it back to you.
You can find Phantump in Wild Zone 13 as well, though they only appear at night.
Speak with the Director
Once caught, return to the Director and speak with him. This also completes the side mission after a short cutscene.
