You are tasked by Mable to fulfill certain requests, such as catching specific Types of Pokemon, and by earning enough points from these requests, you'll level up and be rewarded with items such as TMs.
List of All Mable's Research Rewards

Aside from the Main Missions, the game offers optional Side Missions throughout the game that you can accomplish. As you progress through the story, you'll unlock more and more Side Missions, which offer various rewards, such as one of the Kanto starters or even a shiny Mareep.

From time to time, you will spot glowing Pokeballs throughout the city, and you can press the A button to open them and get an item. Keep opening these Pokeballs as you travel all over Lumiose City as the items you receive may come in handy.

There are also sparkling objects that you can spot all over the ground. You can step over them to pick them up, and you'll also acquire items, such as Tiny Mushrooms and Pretty Feathers that you can sell at stores to earn money.

As you explore Lumiose City, make sure to visit landmarks, such as Pokemon Centers or cafes, to register these locations as travel spots that you can Fast Travel to.

You will see clusters of pink crystals throughout the city, and you can use Pokemon moves to destroy these crystals and get Mega Shards. These will eventually come in handy as you can exchange them for Mega Stones at Quasartico Inc.

You might spot a few Pokeballs that glow purple, and these contain Colorful Screws. Getting these are usually a challenge, and some may require you to Roto-Glide to reach them.
100 Colorful Screw Locations and Where to Turn Them In

After collecting Colorful Screws, you can then trade them for Canari Plushes. Each type of Canari Plush offers a different bonus, such as increased catch rate or experience gain, and you can trade for up to three of each type.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A has a battle system that's unlike the mainline Pokemon games, and adapting to the new system is the key to winning battles. Try to avoid the opposing Pokemon's attacks and manage the cooldowns of your moves as you duke it out with other trainers!
| Symbol | Effectiveness |
|---|---|
| ◎ | Super effective |
| ◯ | Neutral |
| △ | Not very effective |
| ✕ | No effect |
While the battle system is fresh, type effectiveness remains the same, and if you're unfamiliar with how hard youor Pokemon's moves will hit the opposing Pokemon, symbols appear on your moves to help you out.
Type Chart and Team Matchup Checker

Catching Pokemon is a bit different in Legends: Z-A. ^ symbols appear beside Wild Pokemon, and more arrows mean the catch rate is higher.
To maximize the catch rate, you can either sneak up on Pokemon and throw a Pokeball without them noticing, or defeat them with your own Pokemon Using Quick Balls to catch unaware Pokemon is an effective strategy in particular.

If you missed a few Pokeballs, an NPC will collect them for you, and you can claim your lost Pokeballs outside a Pokemon Center.

To earn the right to a Promotion Match in the Z-A Royale, you must earn enough Ticket Points for a Challenger's Ticket, which takes more time as your rank goes up. Therefore, you can sneak up on trainers in Battle Zones to make your battles end faster and fulfill the missions on Battle Cards to earn even more Ticket Points.

If you capture all of the different Pokemon in a single Wild Zone, you will earn a crown for that Wild Zone. Earning a crown in each Wild Zone grants you a lot of experience for your Mable's Research Level, and there's now a chance for Alpha variants of the Pokemon in those Wild Zones to appear!
