No Co-op Play
Unlike Pokemon Scarlet and Violet which had co-op features such as raid battles or Union Circles that allowed you to battle alongside and interact with friends, Pokemon Legends: Z-A does not have co-op multiplayer.
Four People Can Battle Each Other Online
However, just like the mainline Pokemon games, Pokemon Legends: Z-A allows you to battle other trainers online through the Z-A Battle Club.
In the Battle Club, up to four people can battle each other at the same time, with each Trainer competing for first to fourth place based on the number of Pokemon defeated within the time limit.
Compete in Ranked Battles
Aside from battling against your friends, you can also compete in ranked battles online. See how well your Pokemon fare against other Trainers and do your best to come out on top!

Pokemon Trading is Available
While you can't play cooperatively with friends, you can trade Pokemon online, just like in previous iterations, and you can unlock this feature after Main Mission 03: A New Life in Lumiose City.
Trading can be accessed by selecting Link Play in the menu then selecting Link Trade afterward, and you can either trade with friends nearby or you can trade with Trainers from far away, but this requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
