Florges and Eelektross are excellent for the walkthrough. Florges has excellent Special Defense and has access to Wish and Giga Drain. Eelektross can learn Fire Punch/Flamthrower and Thunder Punch/Discharge as well as Giga Drain and Flash Cannon and Dragon Pulse/Liquidation. They are very versatile!
I like Meganium for it's defenses and support. While not very useful in the traditional pokemon games, Meganiwall can damage sponge many attacks in the game and has Giga drain and Synthesis to heal as well as both screens and safeguard. So if you need to catch your breath or use items to heal your stronger attackers, it's not a bad idea to have a purely support Meganium. Reflect and Lightscreen make that much of a difference and very few attacks (even super effective ones) can one shot.
Correction: Heracross details. "It's natural Bug and *FIGHTING*-type makes it hard to find someone who has its weakness."
Heracross is Bug/Fighting, not Bug/Flying
it’s fire/flying
