I can't speak for others experiences, but I can say that giga drain ran this game for me. I can count the number of times my Meganium went down on 3 fingers. It was literally to bs end game stuff too and I was being greedy. I am confident in saying that it generally doesn't matter since all starters even the worst ones like Chikorita are better than half the games mons in most situations.
totodile is better
There are not many good grass type at the start so chikorita is the best choice
Saying that tepig is the best starter becaus eof its stat line when chikorita outclasses both the other starters in def, satt,sdef,and spd. physical attack isn't everything being able to outlast your early competition also very useful.
