There are some side missions where you can make a decision to catch a pokemon or not. One of them is the Diggersby at the holovator. Can't remember the others. There is also one side mission where you can choose to get an alpha or not, and that decision cannot be changed.
During Main Mission 20 you have a chance to catch a Gengar. Usually, main mission pokemon encounters end when you knock out said pokemon. I noticed too late that you can catch it.
in the final act, during the ladder scene with the Rust Syndicate, you can drop down again and again afterwards - with Corbeau getting more and more frustrated one of my favourite "silly" scenes from the game and completely missable by just continuing forward
I chose all three choices of the Rank A Wish Choice and only the first choice progressed the story. The second one the rival said something along the lines of being something Team MZ is already doing and returned me to the wish selection. Maybe the Second Choice only progresses the story if you did all side quests before getting to this point? Because I barely did any side quests before finishing the main story...
You CAN soft reset your Starter. While it does Autosave, it does so after the -battle-, not the actial selection itself. If you save before selecting, and then close mid battle, you'll be at the selection again. The caveat to this is that you cannot check nature/IVs beforehand. However, you can confirm it works because your starters Max HP will differ. This means the only things you can -easily- reset for are HP and Gender, but you -can- do it.
