Press Tab or Interact with a Checkpoint to open the Overlay Map in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2). Read on and check out the different methods to show the overlay map, as well as what the overlay map is!
Pressing Tab opens the overlay map at the middle of the screen, showing the map and layout of the current area you're in. This removes the minimap at the top-right side.
Interact with a checkpoint on a map to open the Overlay Map. You can only fast travel to other checkpoints through this method. You can still fast travel between checkpoints in areas you've already visited, even if the revealed layout has been reset.
The Overlay Map displays current layout of the map you're in. Going to an area the first time won't show you the full layout, and you'll need to fully explore it to reveal the complete map. Revisiting an area will cause you to lose the revealed area after some time passes.
This is especially useful when clearing atlas maps. For example, it's best to get the reveal the full layout on maps with Breaches. This way, you won't risk getting lost while killing enemies left and right as you go. It'd be bad if you were to get cornered and surrounded by enemies in a dead end.
During atlas maps, opening the overlay map also shows the modifiers affecting the map you're on. These include both prefixes and suffixes of waystones and precursor tablets.
