To get Ascendancy Skill Points to progress your Ascendancy Class, you must complete the daunting Ascension Trials!
The first instance you can get Ascendancy Skill Points is through the Trial of the Sekhemas in Act 2. Upon first completion, you will be able to unlock your Ascendancy Class and be rewarded two Ascendancy Skill Points to use!

Complete the Trial of Chaos via the quest with the Chimeral Inscribed Ultimatum in Act 3 to earn the 3rd and 4th Ascendancy Skill Points.
This trail tests your skills and rewards you with the 3rd and 4th Ascendancy Skill Points, bringing you closer to mastering your Ascendancy Class and its powerful abilities!

For the 5th and 6th Ascendancy Skill Points, you’ll need to complete one of the following:
Level 60 Baryas start dropping in the middle of Act 3, while Lv65+ Ultimatums can drop from Waystone maps during the early stages of the Atlas endgame.

For the 7th and 8th Ascendancy Skill Points, complete one of the following:
Both will grant you the final Ascendancy Skill Points, completing your path to Ascendancy mastery! You can get up to a maximum of eight ascendancy points!

This route minimizes floor and Honor-based challenges from Sekhemas and focuses on the generally faster-paced Chaos trials instead.
That said, if you have strong Honour Resistance Relics, it might be worth doing a Level 60 Trial of the Sekhemas for your 5th and 6th Ascendancy Points. It unlocks earlier than the Level 75 Trial of Chaos, which can speed up your Ascendancy progress.
If someone helps you defeat Zarokh (Sekhemas) or the Trialmaster (Chaos) before you've ascended, you’ll still get all 8 Ascendancy Skill Points once you unlock your Ascendancy.
Trial of Chaos is generally the smoother option until your Relics are strong enough to handle the grind of Sekhemas. It’s more forgiving, faster to clear, and comes with extra perks like Vaal Orbs and Soul Cores, making it ideal for both progression and currency farming.
If you’re trying Sekhemas, aim for Relics with % to Honour Resistance and try to reach the 75% cap. Without that, Sekhemas gets brutal fast. Only switch to Sekhemas when you’ve got a relic loadout that laughs in the face of floor traps.

The Ascendancy Class is essentially the specialization or sub-class of your main class. Allotting points into their exclusive skills can drastically change or improve your already set build, meaning there are more avenues for you to explore!
Furthermore, Ascendancy Skill Points are not in the same pool as your passive skills, meaning the Ascendancy Skills are an individual boost of power to add to your build.
