Leagues are game modes in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) that players can choose from based on their preferred playstyle. Check out our guide to learn what are leagues, how to choose a league, and a list of leagues in the game.
Dawn of the Hunt is the new upcoming League content in Path of Exile 2. This league does not have a unique game feature included in its own league but will reset the economy of new players playing the new upcoming league. It will however, include several in-game update that can be experienced in both the league and the standard game mode which are all listed below.
The new Huntress Class will also be added to the game as a new playable character. Its primary weapon is the spear which will add it as an obtainable equipment together with 25 new active skills with it.
Huntress Ascendancies and Class Guide
Aside from the Huntress, there are also 3 new Ascendancy classes that will be added to the game. The Smith of Kitava for the Warrior, the Tactician for the Mercenary, and the Lich for the Witch.
List of Classes and Ascendancies
The new league will also add 100 new support gems in the game. These support gems will support both the Huntress' new skills as well as adding more diversity to existing skill gems to add more build and in-game customization options to your build.
Aside from gems and classes, there are also a huge amount of uniques added into the game, specifically, a hundred uniques. Not only are there a lot of new uniques, these uniques are also designed to be used for endgame content which is one of the core issues with the current set of uniques in the game.
The Azmerian Wisps are interactiable objectives that you can follow in the Atlas. The Wisp will affect enemies it comes into contact with, making them stronger and each Wisp have their own unique modifers they can add to monsters. Affecting Rare Monsters makes them deadlier and adds the wisps' unique effect to these rares to make them more deadlier.
Defeating these enemies can drop unique socketable Talismans that grants strong effects to specific gear types.
There are also several new features that will be added to the Atlas which is the game's endgame content. It includes the Rogue Exiles which are enemies that can use the moves of your fellow Exiles as well as wield uniques that you can obtain if you defeat them.
There will also be new Strongboxes that offers different types of challenges to players and different rewards for each of the 4 new strongboxes added to the game.
There will be new endgame maps that you can tackle while exploring the Atlas. The Megalth map which allows you to experience a boss rush challenge where you can challenge bosses continuously and can be a great source of the newly updated runes.
The Fractured Lake is a scenic area that summons new platforms in a serene lake. Enemies will always appear as pairs in this mirror-like world which can double the challenge but also double the rewards. You can also get items from Fragmented Mirrors that can modify the prefix and suffix slots of the item it grants which can allow you to possibly slot more prefixes or suffixes to the gear you get from the mirror.
Lastly and while not a new addition, Corruption areas will now also add a new area which is the corrupted nexus. These maps will be found at the center of corrupted areas and defeating all rares in the Corrupted Nexus will summon a Corrupted Boss. Defeating the boss will cleanse the corruption in the area and will also reward you with Atlas passive skill points.
The cleansed maps won't just become regular maps with no corruption, instead, they will become tagged as cleansed and will offer new enemies, bosses, modifiers, rewards, and a chance to obtain Fractured Orbs from enemies so be sure to cleanse the Corrupted Nexus to find what new content these cleansed maps will bring to the endgame.
Fractured Orbs allows you to randomly lock a random modifier from a gear with 4 modifiers. This will cause that modifer to be unaffected by any modifying items like Vaal Orbs.
Towers have been reduced but updated to be more interactive compared to its previous iteration. It can now gain more mechanics upon a use of a Tablet and it also gets multiplied on Tiers 10 and 15. The maps it can affect has also been increased to offset the reduction of Towers in the Atlas.
The Towers can now also use multiple Tablets to allow players to retain the benefits of stacking Tower effects on maps multiple towers overlap. The Towers will now also feature their own bosses that you can encounter once you tackle the newly updated towers in the endgame.
The game features two permanent leagues players can choose from: Standard and Hardcore. Each League has their own set of characteristics that work best depending on a player's desired difficulty and playstyle.
Game Modes | Description |
---|---|
Standard | The recommended way to play the game |
Hardcore | Hardcore mode increases the difficulty, making the experience more challenging. |
Solo Self-Found | Has the default difficulty, but cannot interact with other players. |
Hardcore SSF | Has the Solo Self-Found mechanics but with an increased difficulty. |
Standard League is the game's default league where players both new or experienced are most likely to join as there are no consequences for dying and players can trade freely with one another.
This game mode is ideal for most players as you can play through the game's content without having to be concerned over dying.
Hardcore is suited for players that want a more challenging experience as there is a permadeath mechanic where dying anytime in this League will send your character to the Standard League, effectively losing access to the Hardcore League for that specific character permanently.
If PoE 2 brings over this game mode from the previous game, this is most likely what players can expect.
Solo Self-Found is a game mode where you cannot interact with other players, disabling features such as trading. This is inteded for players who wants to play the game solo.
What is Solo Self-Found (SSF)?
Hardcore SSF is a more difficult version of Solo Self-Found, and is intended for players wanting an even more challenging experience! There aren't any online features here as well, like trading, which may make it harder to acquire equipment.
Similar to Seasons in other ARPG games, the same concept also exists in this game with Challenge Leagues. The duration of these leagues can vary while also having exclusive modifiers that isn't available in the permanent leagues.
Upon completion of a Challenge League, the character can then be brought over to either permanent league.
Players will have the choice of selecting their preferred League before they create their character. Do note that while you from Hardcore to Standard upon dying, there is no way of switching from Standard to Hardcore during a playthrough so be sure of your choice before creating a character.
