Add to Watchlist

Path of Exile 2 - Balbala, the Traitor
To beat Balbala, the Traitor in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), find the invisible Balbala during the Poison Gas phase, walk through the coin runes to avoid adds, and dodge her attacks or use high mobility skills to stay safe. Learn Balbala's location, how to defeat Balbala, her movesets and mechanics, and rewards!

Balbala, the Traitor Location

Traitor's Passage - Act 2

Balbala, though optional, is a necessary boss fight to unlock your Ascendancy as soon as possible. You'll encounter Balbala at the Prison of the Disgraced, which is past the first checkopint in the Traitor's Passage of Act 2.

Finding her can be tricky, but here's a little clue: once you spot the Decree of Imprisonment statue, look for a path with sealing papers stuck along the walls. Follow that the route and you’ll reach Balbala’s lair!

How to Beat Balbala, the Traitor

Tips to Beat Balbala, The Traitor

Find the Invisible Balbala During the Poison Gas Phase

Path of Exile 2 - How to Beat Balbala, The Traitor

When Balbala disappears then poison gas starts spreading from the center, go around the arena and look for Balbala. Getting closer to the boss makes her slowly lose her invisibility. Getting close enough will make her do a Slam Attack and end this phase.

Walk Through the Coin Runes to Avoid Additional Enemies

Path of Exile 2 - Walk Through the Coin Runes to Beat Balbala

Balbala throws coins that create yellow runes on the ground. After 10 seconds, these runes spawn additional enemies, which can quickly overwhelm you when Balbala starts tossing many coins.

To prevent this, walk over the runes to destroy the coins before they summon enemies. However, be cautious: Balbala will teleport to your location and unleash an AoE slam when you step on a rune. This attack also leaves Burning Ground behind. To avoid damage, roll away immediately after stepping on the rune to dodge the teleport slam.

Let the Coin Spawn Enemies to Recharge Your Flask

Alternatively, you can let the coins spawn enemies deliberately. Use these enemies to trigger On-Kill effects or recharge your Flask or Charm, providing a tactical advantage during the fight.

Summon Minions or Use Traps for Distraction

If your build supports it, summoning minions or using traps can divert Balbala’s attention. These additional units help manage the enemy spawns from coin runes, reducing the burden on you and allowing you more opportunities to deal damage safely.

Embrace High-Mobility Skills to Dodge Attacks

Using a high-mobility build can dramatically improve your survival against Balbala. With skills such as Blink, or Leap Slam, or Shield Charge, you can quickly reposition to avoid her teleport slam and AoE attacks. Maintain constant movement and be ready to roll away immediately after any contact with coin runes to avoid the resulting Burning Ground.
