Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Ekbab, Ancient Steed Boss Guide

Add to Watchlist

Path of Exile 2 - Ekbab, Ancient Steed
Ekbab, Ancient Steed is an Act 2 Main Boss in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2). See the location, the drops or rewards, and tips on how to beat Ekbab, Ancient Steed here.

How to Beat Ekbab, Ancient Steed

Tips on Beating Ekbab, Ancient Steed

Defeat Iktab First for an Easier Phase Two Fight

Iktab, The Deathlord
Defeating Iktab first leaves Ekbab for the second phase which is easier to deal with due to its lack of powerful spells. Defeating Ekbab first, though easier, lets Iktab cast stronger spells, but it creates more openings that ranged characters can use to deal damage.

Lower Their Health Simultaneously

If possible, the best way to deal with this duo would be to simultaneously lower their health down to a point where you can quickly deal with the remaining boss. Doing so essentially negates the second phase of both bosses. To do this method reliably, it is best to stick to Iktab to lure Ekbab near him.

Dodge Iktab's Central Rotating Orb

Iktab, The Deathlord Attack
Iktab has an attack wherein a giant orb appears in the center of the area and starts periodically shooting projectiles while Iktab continues attacking simultaneously. Getting caught can significantly decrease your health, so avoid the projectiles as much as possible.

It's important to note that this attack does not fire from a consistent position. You can imagine the orb is spinning, and that the projectiles also fire from different positions.

Dodge to the Side to Avoid Ekabab's Attacks

Ekbab, Ancient Steed Attack
While focusing on defeating Iktab first, Ekbab will use a variety of melee swings, charges, and slams. One attack wherein Ekbab slams the ground and a frontal wave moves forward is particularly tricky to spot quickly. Whatever Ekbab's attacks may be, dodging to the side usually lets you avoid taking damage from its attacks.

Ekbab and Iktab Moveset

Ekbab, Ancient Steed Attack Patterns

Moves Details and Tips
Ground Slam
Ekbab slams the ground, sending a shockwave forward. Dodge sideways when you see it wind up for the slam.
Basic Melee Attack
Ekbab swings its tusks sideways, dealing damage within melee range. Keep your distance from it or position yourself on its side to avoid the attacks.
Charge
Ekbab charges forward in a straight line. It is still relatively slow, giving you ample time to dodge sideways.
Lightning Orbs
Ekbab has no new attacks if Iktab, The Deathlord dies first. However, there will be persistent lightning orbs roaming around the arena. One orb fires projectiles in all directions and the other orb follows you and explodes upon contact. Dodge the lightning orb attacks by constantly moving and positioning yourself between the projectiles.

Iktab, The Deathlord Attack Patterns

Moves Details and Tips
Lightning Volley
Iktab lays down numerous marks on the ground where lightning will strike after a short pause. There is ample space in between marks to position yourself in to avoid taking damage.
Giant Lightning Orb
Iktab summons a giant orb of lightning that periodically shoots out beams. You can stay in the outer edge of the arena to have the most time to avoid the projectiles.
Meteor Shower
Iktab drops three meteors spread out across the arena. The meteors have more than enough space for you to still move freely.
Teleportation
Iktab can teleport away from his current position, appearing somewhere within the arena.
Meteor Shower Variant
If Ekbab, Ancient Steed dies first, Iktab's Meteor Shower has increased projectiles. Though there are smaller spaces between marks, they are still enough to completely avoid taking damage.
Lightning Volley Variant
If Ekbab, Ancient Steed dies first, Iktab's Lightning Volley has increased projectiles. Stay as far away from Iktab since there are bigger gaps between marks.
Giant Lightning Orb Variant
If Ekbab, Ancient Steed dies first, Iktab's Giant Lightning Orb fires more projectiles with shorter intervals in between. Stay as far away from it as you can to have ample time to go between projectiles.

I recommend burning them both down at the same time while both are active. Once one dies the other enters into a second phase that includes multiple AoEs. To negate this and make the fight much easier: burn them both down to 1/10th, finish off Iktab first then Ekbab last.

don't underestimate the importance of getting resistance and life on your gear. its a really boring stat to get if didn't play poe 1, but it makes a lot of difference in surviving one-shots. I think this boss deals lightning and fire damage, so a lightning/fire resistant charm would save you a couple lethal hits.
