How to Beat Ekbab, Ancient Steed

Tips on Beating Ekbab, Ancient Steed

Defeat Iktab First for an Easier Phase Two Fight

Iktab, The Deathlord
Defeating Iktab first leaves Ekbab for the second phase which is easier to deal with due to its lack of powerful spells. Defeating Ekbab first, though easier, lets Iktab cast stronger spells, but it creates more openings that ranged characters can use to deal damage.

Dodge Iktab's Central Rotating Orb

Iktab, The Deathlord Attack
Iktab has an attack wherein a giant orb appears in the center of the area and starts periodically shooting projectiles while Iktab continues attacking simultaneously. Getting caught can significantly decrease your health, so avoid the projectiles as much as possible.

It's important to note that this attack does not fire from a consistent position. You can imagine the orb is spinning, and that the projectiles also fire from different positions.

Dodge to the Side to Avoid Ekabab's Attacks

Ekbab, Ancient Steed Attack
While focusing on defeating Iktab first, Ekbab will use a variety of melee swings, charges, and slams. One attack wherein Ekbab slams the ground and a frontal wave moves forward is particularly tricky to spot quickly. Whatever Ekbab's attacks may be, dodging to the side usually lets you avoid taking damage from its attacks.

I recommend burning them both down at the same time while both are active. Once one dies the other enters into a second phase that includes multiple AoEs. To negate this and make the fight much easier: burn them both down to 1/10th, finish off Iktab first then Ekbab last.

don't underestimate the importance of getting resistance and life on your gear. its a really boring stat to get if didn't play poe 1, but it makes a lot of difference in surviving one-shots. I think this boss deals lightning and fire damage, so a lightning/fire resistant charm would save you a couple lethal hits.
