As of patch 0.1.1c, players can now change any of their characters' names through the game's official website. Listed in the next segment is a step-by-step method on how to do so.

Log In to the Path of Exile's Website and Go to the Account Profile
Go to Path of Exile's Official Website and log in to your account. Afterward, click on your account name at the upper right corner of the screen to go to your profile.

Click on Rename Character and Select a Character
Once on the account profile page, click on the Rename character button on the right panel. This redirects you to a page where you can supposedly select one of their PoE 2 characters to rename or swap names. Note that you can only edit your characters' names 20 times.
Expire and Choose a New Name
This option allows you to select one character, expire their name, and select a new name. Note that expiring a character's name makes it available for other players to claim and use.
Swap Names With Another Character
This option prompts you to choose two of their characters and have their names swapped.
