Ancient Vows is a side quest in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) where you collect two special relics to place in the Valley of Titans for a permanent buff. Find the Relics in The Bone Pits and Keth

The Ancient Vows quest begins when you pick up either of the two relics: the Sun Clan Relic or the Kabala Clan Relic. Both are random drops from enemies in their respective areas. You'll find the Kabala Clan Relic in Keth and the Sun Clan Relic in The Bone Pits.

After obtaining one, your quest log will update with the objective: “Find a use for the Relic.” Although it doesn’t matter which relic you find first, it’s best to collect both before proceeding to the Valley of the Titans.

Place the Relics in the Valley of Titans Altar

Once both relics are collected, head to the Valley of the Titans and look for the altar beside the area’s Waypoint. Interact with the medallion-shaped altar to begin the ritual. Place the Kabala Clan Relic in the left socket and the Sun Clan Relic in the right socket.

Choose One of Two Permanent Buffs

After placing the relics, you’ll be prompted to choose between two permanent buffs. These buffs are not locked in—you can revisit the altar at any time to switch between the two.

The quest can also be repeated in Cruel difficulty for a second set of buff choices.

Sun Clan Relic in The Bone Pits

The Sun Clan Relic is a random drop from monsters in The Bone Pits. Keep an eye out for green-colored item text on the ground—this indicates a quest item has dropped.

Kabala Clan Relic in Keth

The Kabala Clan Relic drops from enemies in Keth. Like the Sun Clan Relic, this item appears in green text and drops at random from defeated monsters in the area.

Hold Alt to Keep Medallion UI Open

If the medallion UI keeps closing and prevents you from inserting a relic, press and hold the Alt key. This highlights all interactable objects on the screen, including the medallion sockets. Pick up the relics from your inventory and drop them to the medallion UI while holding the Alt key to insert them.

Press Z or Enable Always Highlight for a Permanent Fix

For a longer-term solution, press the Z key to toggle item and object highlights. You can also enable Always Highlight in the Gameplay section of the Interface Settings tab. This will keep the medallion UI and other objects visible at all times.

Choose One Permanent Buff

When both Relics have been placed, you can choose either one of two permanent buffs:

• 30% Increased Charm Charges Gained
• 15% increased Mana Recovery from Flasks

Only one of these buffs can be active during your playthrough. You can go back anytime to switch between buffs as needed.

Another Set of Choices in Cruel Mode

Completing the quest again in Act 2 Cruel unlocks a second buff choice:

• 30% Increased Charm Charges Gained
• 15% increased Life Recovery from Flasks

Again, only one buff can be active at a time, but you can freely switch between them.

Buff Choice will Depend on Playstyle

It is recommended to take 15% Mana Recovery from Flasks if your character does not have enough mana or mana regen and relies on Flask recovery to enable their playstyle.

Select 30% Increased Charm Charges Gained if your character has enough mana sustain and when you have a suitable Charm equipped that synergizes well with your build.

Choose Increased Life Recovery from Flasks in Cruel Mode

For the Cruel version of the quest, 15% Increased Life Recovery from Flasks is the better option for most players. It helps with survivability and general life sustain, especially during tougher fights.
