To beat Rootdredge in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), watch out for glowing green enemies, clear those zombies first with AoE, and use fire attacks to exploit his weakness. See tips on how to beat Rootdredge, the drops or rewards, its location, and its moves and mechanics here.
List of Contents
A bug where Rootdredge does not complete despite defeating it has been making the rounds for a while now. As of writing, there are still no official fixes for it.
However, it might not always be a bug. Some players found that the encounter doesn’t register as complete until you pick up all the loot. So before you panic, make sure you’ve looted Rootdrege.
If that still doesn’t solve it, feel free to drop a comment below and let us know. We'll keep an eye out for updates.
Rootdredge can be encountered at the Foul Ritual, a random location in the Sandswept Marsh area of Act 3.

Tips on Beating Rootdredge |
---|
|
Rootdredge's most dangerous spells both involve glowing zombies and corpses. These abilities can shotgun,
hitting you multiple times and deal lethal damage in an instant! Stay vigilant for green homing projectiles and brightly glowing zombies or corpses, as they will soon explode, dealing massive damage.
Rootdredge relies on the summoned zombies as ammunition for its most dangerous spells. Be sure to clear the arena of any additional enemies before focusing your attacks on Rootdredge. Use Area-of-Effect skills if you have access to them.
Rootdredge isn’t the biggest fan of fire! This fiery weakness means you can turn up the heat and deal more damage with fire-based attacks.
Move or Mechanic | Details & How to Dodge |
---|---|
Corpse Explosion | Nearby zombies and corpses glow green and detonate after a short delay, dealing significant Fire Damage. Avoid being surrounded, even by corpses, as multiple explosions can “shotgun” and instantly kill you. |
Homing Corpse Explosion | Transforms zombies into homing projectiles that explode shortly after impact. This move becomes dangerous when multiple projectiles detonate simultaneously. Wait for them to start exploding before Dodge Rolling to safety. |
Summon Zombies | A swarm of zombies rises slowly from the water. Prioritize eliminating these additional enemies as soon as possible to avoid being overwhelmed. |
Quicksand | Creates quicksand directly beneath you, slowing your movement the longer you stay in it. This move is particularly deadly when paired with corpse explosion attacks. Stay calm, and prioritize Dodge Rolling any incoming explosions. If it's safe, you can Dodge Roll away from the quicksand |
It is important to note that the areas are randomly generated and that the maps used are meant to serve as a general guide to the map layout.
