POE 2 - How to Block

You can block attacks with a shield in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2). Check out this guide to learn how you can block with the shield and blocking mechanics!

Equip Shield and Bind Raise Shield Skill

To block in Path of Exile 2, you'll need to have a shield equipped which gives you access to the Raise Shield skill. Bind this to your hotbar to start blocking attacks with the shield.

Blocking Explained

Blocks Attacks from the Front

Raising your shield only blocks attacks from the front. You are still vulnerable to attacks from the sides and behind your character. Your Movement speed is also slowed while you have your shield up.

Blocking Limited by Meter

Block Meter

Each attack you block fills up the block meter right next to your health bar. The amount filled up depends on the strength of the attack.

When the block meter gets filled up to full, your guard is broken and you get staggered back with your shield down. The block meter decreases rapidly while you have your shield down so wait a while before trying to block attacks again.
